Yeah I just don't want to spend $500-800 like I know the dealer will charge me for a tiny crack. I might try a 3M bondo repair kit and some touch up paint. As cheap as these plastic bumpers are, it is inevitable that I will get a crack again next winter.

I plastic welded mine and used some touch up paint to cover what was left of the crack. It's solid. All I need to do now is replace a section of my clear bra.

If your subaru is your prized possession: get it fixed professionally
If your subaru is your beater: buy an unpainted bumper, slap it on, and not give a ****.

Lol thanks, I haven't posted anything in a long time. If you're talking about the black plasti-dipped bumper I got rid of that one. I want your light bar though.

I also have mine cracked, but I just zip tied it. Doesn't look bad on DGM.

However, I wrecked my "center bracket". Seems to run fine without it, and looks better too.

I should add that I was in an understeer situation (at a very lame speed, ~30 mph) and I decided to make the turn wider to gain traction. Doing that put me into the next lane over, but there were plastic lane divider posts I had to drive through. In hindsight I should have just tapped the brakes, but I figured the posts were plastic and designed to bend over. I hit the lane dividers with my passenger side first, yet the driver side is what cracked (same spot as everyone else).

Our bumpers don't seem like they were ever meant to bump into anything.

I smashed mine twice this winter. First time I went into retard mode while passing a slow car , flew over an intersection which was under construction and landed on a raised manhole. Smashed a tire (big bubble) as well but didnt even slow down, all I heard was the music of clips rattling in my wheel well as I kept going. My shame was too great to stop and pick up pieces and to bear the judging stares of other motorists, especially that grandma I blasted around. This morning I drove over some snow iceberg and decimated the other side. This time as there were no witnesses, I stopped and picked up the pieces, few broken clips, the side vent and the other plastic thingy that pops out. Popped the bumper back in and got back on the horse.

All cosmetic damage. Not worth fixing. Ill put some stitches on it in the spring as most damage is underneath and not visible

All my fault but damn it sucks

Don't feel so bad; it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to calmly accept slower drivers as this winter drags on. It's only when I see someone in a car that's not equipped for winter try to drive normally do I understand their plight. After it snowed around Chicago last week, I saw a Mustang try to drive somewhat normally on my way to work. It didn't work out so well.

Default same problem

Hey man i had the same problem with my WRX both sides of the lower lip of my bumper cracked.. i've been searching for way to cover up that ugliness but so far no lipkit will cover it. I haven't taken it to the shop but i would assume the cost of fixing and painting you mind as well get a new bumper. On the brightside you can have a winter bumper and a summer bumper good luck and let me know if you find any solution i would love the input also.

Looks like Subaru has addressed the issue.

Around 2:14 the bumper just falls off instead of cracking

I never would've clicked on that link at work. Sounds like it should have the tagline, "From the makers of Debbie Does Dallas..."

Unhappy 2013 Sti

Well I can verify that this bumper cracking is still happening. My 13' cracked in the very same spot after barely scraping a low parking lot entrance. Sad thing is, Ive pulled in and out of this parking lot without any problems before. I'm thinking they dug it out for repairs or something. Its scraped the paint really good too. It sickening. I have almost 10k miles on it now. Two deer have ran into it, hit ice and curbed the front wheel and now cracked/scraped front bumper. All of this under a year of owning it. I'm so careful with this car, its ridiculous. What gives? On a brighter note, Installed Accessport and soon to install Cobb Intake.

My bumper cracked last winter going through some snow...
after my $500 deductible (ouch), new painted bumper and oem lip... I was happy.

THis winter, I don't even know how it happened!! small crack on the other side of the bumper (it goes all the way down) and cracked lip (That was my fault - no pics)!
this time, I decide to give up! Zip ties to hold it together and decision taken that this will be my 'i don't give a crap bumper'! I can't believe how easily these bumpers are cracking! The below freezing temps don't help with the flexibility but still!!
Well, I try to reason that this IS a daily driven subaru and not a garage queen. So by definition, stuff will happen, such is life!

The exact same thing happened to me except not in snow. Idk what happen but I had a crack in the exact same spot. Installed my front lip yesterday so I took the bumper off and plastered a 60 second epoxy on the inside of the crack and Zip tied it tight and it came out good and the lip covers most of it

So it seems I just cracked bumper number 2 a second time on the opposite side across the exact same hole in the bumper. It seems clear to me that this is a defect in the manufacture of these parts and as such I am beginning to look into the possibility of a class action suit. Anyone here know anything about the process?

Is it from hitting something? I doubt it will go through if so... if not you may have a case.

OP still doesn't understand he's driving a car. you hit stuff. get a bumper and plastidip it if you dont want to pay the cost of paint. or if your really anal retentive about your car.

its $200 for a bumper $400 for QUALITY paint vs $5 dollar can of plastidip that your probably going to hit more stuff with as the year goes along.

i've seen cars hit stuff and their bumper holds up way better than ours. it might be the material or there is absolutely 0 reinforcement at the lip tabs or other area's of the bumper.

There are scratches on the underside but not from the incident that caused the second crack, I could see it causing issues in court though trying to prove that. Just drove through some snow that was tougher than it was I guess. Any suggestions for body kit manufacturers that make something inoffensive but a bit more durable? I really don't want to put another OEM bumper on just to have it crack again next year.

I somehow cracked my bumper on my 2013 STi. I just got it a month ago, I can't even remember how it happened. I don't remember hitting anything hard. I must have bumped a snow bank with the bumper while parking and thought nothing of it because it never damaged any of my previous cars (not subarus) doing that. My crack is on the driver-side but almost directly under the fog light. Gonna have to take the bumper off at some point and try to repair it a little.
