For some reason he had it in his head that he had an AMD CPU. This was based upon a screenshot on his phone of the specs when he was ordering parts 2 years ago.

So he went off that rather than looking to see what *actual* hardware he had, or looking at the receipt in his email that had everything listed.

He actually has an Intel CPU.

What he asked for was an AMD Ryzen 7, which of course, isn't compatible with his MB.

He was thinking about buying a new MB. But I pointed out he'd also need a new CPU cooler. I think those quickly went out of his price range.

I also suspect that he barely did a very cursory check and really relied on a friend he went to high school with to tell him what to get.

His mb likely needed updated anyway. If his intel setup was over 2 yrs old it likely would not have fit one of the newer chips.

probably, hopefully, idk, in the next 1/2 year to a year i'll be in the market for a new vehicle. Currently driving an '08 town and country with over 200k miles. it's getting rusty, I think the HG is starting to go, suspension rattles, etc. Otherwise runs good and all that.

just not sure what to get next. I've gotten used to the interior size of the van, like volume and the width (that's what she said) . I dont really want a truck and most larger SUV things aren't calling my name either. I guess the problem is I don't know what to look for.

I'd like something with a decent amount of power, awd, good features, etc....idk

Your only option in a mini van for AWD if I recall is going to be the Sienna. They sell a lot so you should be able to find a used one.

Starting to get really, really pissed off at this BS.

Walking thru grocery store the other day. 2L bottle of Coke...$4

You've lost your f**king minds.

They were out of the ice cream we usually get, so wife grabbed carton of Breyers. They used to be the brand that bragged about all natural, high quality ingredients. Built their name on that. It's garbage now.

Breyer's has apparently reduced the amount of cream they use to the point they are no longer legally allowed to call it "ice cream". It's now labeled as a "frozen dairy dessert".

Went to the store with MrsF4 the other day. Grabbed 26 items. Most of them were BOGO. When the cashier handed over the receipt: "You saved $144 today!"

As we're walking away, my brain is still trying to process that. Had to confirm with wife I heard that right. Somehow we "saved" more than what the actual paid amount was (roughly $110) WTF?!?

And today, I rummage around in the back of the pantry and run across an open bag of Chex Mix that got shoved way in the back. Probably been there at least 9mo because we don't buy it that often.

Both of these are "Family Size"

On the one hand, old man yelling at clouds vibe.

On the other, I feel you. The continued dumbing down of society...and inflation/profit margins of course.

Greedflation.

Cost for raw materials, and even labor, went up but it hasn't gone up THAT much. This is pure corporate greed. Notice how many stock buy-backs all these companies are able to do these days. Hmmm, wonder where that money came from.

I would be griping about that Chex mix too. It tastes like garbage. Homemade is better. My MIL makes it and I can eat a whole sandwich sized ziploc in one sitting if I am not careful.

Hah. I'll take "those that never took economics for $100 Alex". Blaming labor (payroll only I assume) for price increases... bplease. Raw materials and labor right now are the very bottom of the bucket of the death spiral right now. you think what we are getting on our shelves is solely based on labor/raw material costs? You cotton picking ninny muggins! (Sorry Elf)

Ask around how much unemployment taxes went up (to the company), training tax (in some states), how much taxes (and just raw cost) of transportation of goods went up. Also, call around for a quote on insuring a mfr plant, and workforce, and equipment costs (and maintaining/installing said equipment) has gone up.

Not to mention the 15-50% increase in individual taxes to towns/cities (not listed in state books). Using Cali as an example on the state level alone, they moved about 15-25% of income earners in all their brackets on the state level, into the next higher bracket (2020-2024 paying on average +$1000/year alone compared to 4 years ago).

The whole SYSTEM is fubared. Looking at one small portion for all the ails? How very socialist of you, comrade. It's not greed. It's ... (points all around) existence.

My MIL with dementia who lives with us doesn't remember anything you tell her more than about 5 minutes now. Its getting really, really difficult for us to deal with her, and all the activity of the holidays has made it all so much worse. The last few weeks she's been so anxious about so much that she doesn't sleep well or nap, such that by early evening she becomes almost impossible to communicate with and explain things to. We have elderly care people come in for several hours several days/nights a week, and they are having trouble dealing with her too, and often have to call us to talk to her when we aren't home. I think we are at the end of us being able to have her here, and memory care is not far off.

Feelz. My parents were having to deal with that with my grandmother before she passed.

They'd be at her house watching the news. 2 min later she'd turn to my dad and make some comment about the story that was just on, but completely get all of the details wrong.

I'm scared my MIL is starting down that hill.

She literally just called us complaining that she sent us all messages to come over to her house at 1pm today. Nobody had responded and she's pissed. None of us have any messages from her.

I have dinner reservations for MrsF4's birthday coming up. I have the time and date written on several cards that I'm going to put in her kitchen.

We've learned in the past that no amount of text messages will get her to remember the *correct* time and date for an upcoming event.

The last one MrsF4 started sending reminders via text and FB messages a week prior. And then 2 days prior, then 1 day prior, then morning of.

MIL: "What? I thought it was next week!"

Reverse Automatic Braking. If there's so much as a twig behind you it freaks out and scares the **** out of you. Last night I backed into my brother in laws car which is very black and not only did I not see it but RAB didn't ****ing see it either. Never triggered. WTF.

Sounds like old age forgetfulness. Hopefully. Either way it's really frustrating to be sure. We learned a year or so ago not to tell my MIL any plans until day of, otherwise she obsesses about it it constantly. She's lived with us 3 years now and if she asks about going back home and her house less than 5 times in a day it's a damn miracle. Or going to work (retired 25 years), or if her parents know where she is. She's nearly 90. We just laugh, because if you don't you'll cry.

This. Without fail it scares the crap out of me. And like you said, there never seems to be any consistency to it.

It's probably a combo. My dad is at the point of forgetting things like that. But he is acutely aware and writes everything down.

Is it worse for him because he knows it is happening? Apparently it causes him a lot of anxiety.

Getting old sucks.

How come when she can't hear me it's because I'm mumbling, and when I can't hear her it's because I'm not listening?

Consumer spending on non-essential goods is way up despite inflation, which leads to increased corporate profits. You know economics is a really complicated science, right?

How about you follow you own advice and leave your name-calling and political analysis out of it.

My Nissan frontier has an an increasing beeping tone the closer you get to an object. When it's a solid tone you know you're about to hit something. It's helped me on a few oh **** occasions and when parking in my carport.

Still on the topic of money:

Roommate is hounding me to open the Christmas card from their mom. "Okay". Completely forget about it. Cycle repeats. They tell me it has money in it. They always do. I'm very appreciative of it. Completely forgot about it. The roomy puts great emphasis on the point that there's money in it. Then they sort of ask me "what's yore deal".

I understand it has money in it. I don't understand how opening it changes anything. I will then have an opened card with money in it rather than an unopened card with money in it. Schrodinger's money will be in the same place in either state.

We go into how our parents were/our general money related growing up. Growing up money was only talked about, to be talked about or ever considered within the confines of "immediate family" = only those that lived under their roof = basically just me and my parents. Getting cards with money from family = acknowledge the thought, someone not charged with your well being thought enough of you on their own they gave you a card. Their, roomy's, family is "acknowledge the money".

More interesting to me is that my roommate doesn't keep the card. Probably doesn't have one in the house from their birthday over the summer. If they do have it it's because they haven't tossed that stack of recyclables yet... wait they just tossed everything over the weekend. I would put their mom's christmas money on that bet, they have no cards and no money from the cards. I've divested myself of nearly everything I've had 2 or 3 years ago but would bet that christmas money on anther bet that I could find a christmas and/or b-day card from before being legally an adult to present day to include their cards from their parents/family.

Again being an ungrateful **** maybe, I'd rather not get the card or money if it means being under a time limit to open/access/thank anyone for money. I will give YOU money to not bother me about it again.

On the Genesis the rear active braking only reacts to moving objects. Anything stationary goes through the parking sensors, which I imagine will let you crash into whatever if you're persistent enough.

A few weeks ago I agreed to take a friend visiting for Christmas back to the Atlanta airport. It's a 2.5hr drive, and by our estimates, leaving at 4:30am would be fine for a 9:15am flight. Then the forecast changed to torrential rain during this period. Despite finding out the PS4S's hydroplaning limit in a construction zone while idiot crossovers wanted to drive 15mph over in the wall to wall construction zone (that we later passed in Atlanta because they wouldn't drive 80 in a 70 while camping in the ****ing left lane of 4 other lanes); we maintained the GPS arrival time... only to find out that the departure terminal was a total **** show. There was zero guidance on which lane was for what, other than a bunch of ****ing cones out forcing everyone to stay in whatever lane they picked, us like a ton of other people ended up just doing a quick stop to dump bags say goodbye and go. All this only for her to miss her flight because TSA by itself took over 2hrs. Yes day after Christmas and busiest airport blah blah blah. Shouldn't they know what to expect and plan for possibly a crowd?

Also yeah **** the countless left lane camping mother****ers. It would be working through one group of traffic that has created a rolling road block only to find another a few miles up the road. The mindset is totally baffling to me.
