I swear automakers put chrome on all their low level models to encourage people to go with higher trim levels.

As usual I will need to see it in person before making any judgements, but hopefully those black fender flares are optional.

Looks like a 4 door BRZ from the rear. Also why is Subaru obsessed with unpainted black plastic?

Looks like a hatch and it's got a higher ride height? Maybe more off-road focused? I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing but I think lifted WRXes are pretty cool in general.

Looks very Crosstrek-y, really not crazy about the black plastic fenders and side sills.

But I guess it is goofy/quirky. Fitting for a Subaru.

**** me, the ugly fender extensions aren’t even painted?! It looks like a sporty Crosstrek, but at least it’s not in a color that your grandma would pick.

In my opinion, it's to disguise the fact that the fenders aren't really "flared" that much, at least not nearly as much as current or previous generations. Looks pretty lame.

I just rewatched the video. What's the current WRX redline (on the dash, not fuel cutoff)? The new one in that video seems to top out at... 6100rpm -- which seems very low.

Maybe the 2.4L and whatever turbo, doesn't need to rev as high.

FA24DIT Legacy XT redlines at ~6k rpms.

What's the useful powerband of these FA24DIT engines? Do they all redline @ 6K RPM?

Wonder why they didn't bring over some of the headwork they did to enable the higher redline on the 2022 BRZ....

I will wait and see, but I see the plastic fender covers, Alla CrossTrek, my first take is that is unforgivable. That look is initially off putting, we will see but it is not encouraging. However, if other factors are in place I care about maybe all is okay, my priorities are as follows+ Keep weight under control, cannot weigh more than the outgoing model, steering feel, shifter feel, over all driving feel and ride. I currently own a 2013 WRX, purchased with idea I might want a new wrx in time. We shall see how this comes out. Will there be one without the plastic trim, that might be more me.

I'm sure that's true. The 2.4 turbo is basically an SUV engine and it clearly hasn't shed that nature.

However, for a car whose one claim to fame is "driving enjoyment" (if we're honest it's probably not going to be legitimately: fast, nice, or good looking), I'm dubious.

I bet that the STI gets a more normal redline and that, plus the supporting parts, are the big differentiator between the 2.4 engines.

The old EJ255 from 2006 WRX delivers its max power at 5600rpm.
