They referenced BitCoin in the latest episode of Almost Human, citing it as being used for untraceable cash-like transactions in the future.

Sucks about your super stable, non-fiat currency that's immune to government actions, guys.

Way I see it:
A) It will skyrocket again once China figures another way around it and word spreads.
and I'll make money
B) it will plummet
C) something else will take it's place like LTC

If it crashes oh well, I didn't invest in anything so I have nothing loose.

I'm hoping for option A though
I got a lot of FTC waiting to be turned into BTC once the value goes back up again.

But it's finite so it won't suffer from inflation! a

(Instead it'll just suffer from a 55% depreciation in a two week period. I wonder what erodes purchasing power more...a 1-2% annual inflation rate or a loss of 55% in value over three weeks. It's a close call...).

Does the LTC hash get easier as value drops? If so, now is my time!

I came here for panic.

One of the guys at work apparently has made $100,000 off of Bitcoin mining and buying. Though that might have crashed a bit today. He said he just bought a whole mining server operation using Bitcoins.

I'm assuming you mean difficulty? That depends on the number of people mining. I don't think value has any effect on difficulty.
But if you're doing short term, its more profitable to mine FTC and trade them into BTC/LTC at the moment.

How much Hash you got yo?

I haven't actually messed with it to find out. How do you compute it for Crossfire cards? Is there just a script I install and then it shows me?

I have:
7950, 100352-2L - 670 hash
and
7950, FX-795A-TDFC - 640 hash

That's from the hardware comparison (https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardwar...#AMD_.28ATI.29), but they are listed with overclocks, not stock.

depends on how you're mining, if you're doing solo it depends on the software you're using.

If your'e pooling like on coinotron. You can use something like GUIminer then run the configured .bat file it saves to the directory to open in CMD Prompt, instead of the GUI interface and it will display your hashrates in the window.

(I'm explaining it as if you already know what you're doing. So i'll clarify if you need more help)

I do not know what I'm doing. I know enough to know you can mine solo or choose to join a pool.

I do not know the real monetary advantages of a pool since I'm assuming they take a cut for administration. I also would have no idea where to start in picking a pool to join.

Can my friends and I create a private pool?

The point I was making is that people are wrong when they say that fiat currencies are backed by nothing. They're backed by the monetary policy of the central bank and the taxing power of the federal government.

I like how the goalposts are always shifting in defense of this ****ty imaginary magic fedora money

"It's universal!"

*no actual businesses except for reddit, the my little pony emporium, and the pirate bay accept it*
"Anyone can use it and it doesn't cost anything to get started!"
*requires multi-thousand-dollar "mining rig" that draws thousands of watts of power and gives off a huge amount of heat just to get a single bitcoin*
"It's secure and can't be manipulated!"
*Is constantly being hacked and manipulated because the primary marketplace is a ****ty Magic the Gathering exchange website with half-assed security protocols*
"It's finite, like gold, a real commodity, and not made up out of nowhere like unbacked currencies!"
*is literally just imaginary, invented hexadecimal hashes that come from nowhere, are cloud-stored, and are backed by nothing*
"It's stable, making it a sound investment - it's entirely immune to any sort of government intervention or investor speculation!"
*Chairman Mao's ghost farts, value completely plummets for the second time in six months after skyrocketing for no reason*
"It... uh... well, taxation is theft!"

I was going to start mining bitcoins but I decided to just jar my own farts and use them to heat my house this winter.
