How come the maintenance manual don't mention anything about the water pump change interval? I tried the search and I couldn't find anything, this is my first subie, sorry for my ignorance. 2013 Impreza limited

Because it's not a regular service interval maintenance item.

Did they make some changes to the schedules when they switched to mysubaru.com? I just looked up my car there and it reads more like the dealership now for a 2014 WRX:
Recommended Maintenance (30k) A/C Filter Air cleaner element Automatic transmission fluid Brake fluid Brake linings and drums Camshaft drive belt Clutch operation Disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions Drive belt(s) [Except camshaft] Engine Coolant Systems, hoses and connections Engine oil Engine oil filter Fuel systems, lines and connections Inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system Rotate and Inspect Tires Steering and suspension Transmission/Differential (Front & Rear) lubricants (Gear oil) It doesn't describe if these are inspections or replacements or what. I'm trying to figure out what really needs to be done for the 30K service and what are add ons at the dealer. I found a 2014 WRX factory service manual that only states the brake fluid needs changing, oil change, and air filters should be replaced besides lots of inspections. |

2007 2.5L SOHC - replacing timing belt today. Does anyone know the size of the crank pulley bolt, and torque spec please? I keep seeing 95ft lb. For the lightened ones, and 130ft lb. For the stock harmonic balancer. I'm really interested in the bolt size. Help please

Just pair it with the timing belt service. That's when it needs to be done.

It's time for a battery change for 2013 Impreza Sportwagon. I live in Florida now but the car will be going to St Louis and I would like to buy a stronger battery. I cannot get the Interstate battery that is specified (MTP-35) in FL so they offered the MTP-24. It is 2 inches longer. Does anyone know if it will fit?

Specific Maintenance
Thank you for this information, I need something a little more specific though. Can you point me a break down (tools, instructions) to change the front left wheel bearing in a 2001 Subaru Legacy? I believe it's a pressed bearing correct?

CODE p0026 HELP ASAP!
Any suggestions....
07 impreza 2.5i Problem: 2 days ago the check maintenance light came on and the blinking cruise light came on right after that. Earlier, after driving about 15 minutes to work I parked my car to the smell of burning oil + saw smoke coming out from under the hood. What I know: Autozone associates ran a code which revealed: P0026. I had an oil change at a Subaru dealership and they did inform me that my head gasket is leaking. (I do not have the money to fix it.) Now I am thinking if I should drive home which is 45 minutes away- with the condition of my car. what would you do!?!:grump y: |

Great post. One thing to add on to rear diff section is that up to 06 you need Subaru LSD fluid or an equivalent, and every year after you can use any 75w90 gear oil.

Sticky clutch that doesnt disengage
Hi all.
I have an 2009 Subaru forester touring wagon that has a sticky clutch at the moment.. when you go to push it in it snaps down to floor and I have to actually flick it back up with my foot. It had a burnt smell to it last time running. We can't work out what it could be .. we took the master cylinder out and made sure there wasn't anything major there as well as bleeding it. My other half reckons he looked at the slave cylinder as well and couldn't see any leaks of fluid on the rubber ring things.. it makes a bit of a whirring dull grind when the clutch is pushed in once engine is started up. Any ideas??? Needing to sort it asap so I can get to my shift tomorrow as I'm a long way out for lifts haha. Any Help is much appreciated. Thanks |

Do I really need to change my brake fluid?
Do I really need to change my brake fluid after 30,000 miles a new Suburu? What are the risks of not doing regular fluid changes?

Re: brake fluid change
"Worn-out" brake fluid may interfere with proper functioning of ABS system.

What I'm dealing with is a poorly fit upper rad hose. What I have is an upper radiator hose meant for (I believe) an 05 wrx, attached to the 03 2.0L radiator (the only thing in this setup actually intended for the 03 wrx) and then on the other end of that hose it's attached to a motor from a 2000 JDM forester (with the original 03 wrx turbo and new head gaskets).
So my issue is there isn't enough clearance between that pulley and the upper rad hose. The radiator isn't positioned correctly for the motor that's in there. I tried to put in an 03 rad hose, didn't work. I have a 55mm flexible rad hose on hand that I might try as a last resort. The motor side and rad side are both 38mm in diameter. I'm just looking for any suggestions anyone might have about this situation, anything would help. Ideally I want to find a molded rad hose that has the same S shape as the one in there, but with longer ends past the curves on either side. So it would clear the pulley and then I could just trim it down on the rad side |
