That site has been offline for months, I don't think Subaru wants people doing updates themselves.

Bumping this...
I have a 2017 WRX with the crappy 6.2" Clarion unit. Does anyone know if I can install the FF687US (7" Navigation screen) into my car, or does it have to be the FF667UM (7", non-Nav) unit? I don't care about the actual Navigation function at all, I am just wondering if it's still a plug-and-play or if I need any extra components to do it. The only reason I ask is because sometimes I find more FF687US units than the FF667UM. On that note, there are also some other faceplate numbers that I've seen recently that I don't recognize...these are all 7" screens from the Forester: FF667UM - 7", non Nav FF687US - 7", Nav FF678UM - 7", ??? FF679UM - 7", ??? FF698UM - 7", ??? So as you can see there are at least 5 different faceplate numbers for the 7" Fujitsu-ten units and I'm just trying to figure out if I can use any of them in my WRX or if there are only specific ones that will work. |

None of the 7" will be 100% "plug-and-play" -- they'll all require redirecting your car's rear camera to the 7" HU's 5-pin camera socket, and switching to the dual USB pod, as discussed earlier in this thread. Adding to your list of 7" HU models: Quote:
When viewing the rear, you can distinguish nav from non nav by the GPS antenna socket -- gray, at the bottom left, next to the USB socket, similar to the blue XM antenna socket. Also, the front ID number ends with S. BTW, if the seller includes the telematics module (thin box mounted to the bottom of the HU, with sticker "FT00"), you don't need that. If someone can send me one, I'd really like to open one up to see how it makes/breaks the connections on the HU's front speaker channels. Last edited by SVXdc; 06-15-2018 at 07:41 PM. |

Despite not being 100% plug and play I still imagine it'll be a lot more simple than an aftermarket HU. As nice as Android Auto sounds, one of the things I dislike the most about aftermarket HUs is that there's a lot of "empty space" on the sides/bezel after you install one. Call me old fashioned, but I also like having an actual volume knob, which is more and more rare with aftermarket units now. I'm going for an OEM look with better sound quality than the crappy 6.2" unit offers, so I'm planning to install a 7" unit and a Power Pack and call it a day. In regards to the dual USB, I might just skip that altogether since I NEVER use the USB port in the center console. Both my cell phone as well as my girlfriend's cell phone uses a USB Type-C connector and I have a Type-C car charger plugged into the cigarette lighter for rapid charging. USB Type A to Type C charging is much slower on our phones, so for $100 for the dual USB hub, I might just pass on that. Last edited by YungBoba; 06-18-2018 at 02:55 PM. |

If it's easy to remove, I don't mind swapping it myself...I was just under the impression that it's all one piece. |

Anyone get the USB working without buying a dual usb AUX Terminal?
I bough a Y splitter that works but the head unit still won't read the USB. I also wouldn't mind buying a used dual usb terminal but not about to dish out more than I spend on the head unit. |

I did the same thing, i had to take out the hu one more time to see if i could get the module out for someone but i couldnt and as i put it back in i noticed i dropped the usb connector down the hole and had forgotten it, its a bugger to get plugged in, so i would just double check that |

Finally doing this swap soon! Found a cheap working unit for $115 on eBay...after using a coupon I found it came out to $97 after tax, free shipping.
Unit should be here next Monday, also ordered the harness from AutoHarnessHouse last week and replacing the stock plastic gauge hood with the JDM leather + red stitching gauge hood while I'm at it. No dual USB for me...I don't use the USB port anyway so I'm just gonna leave it alone. |

NAV HK head unit question
I have the 7 inch HK (Harmon Kardon) head unit already in my 2017 WRX (Came from the factory that way). Found a NAV HK head unit from a 2017 STI. Will this be plug and play?
Assuming I need to get the GPS antenna if the new NAV head unit doesn't come with it. It the GPS antenna sourceable from aftermarket or do I need to buy the Subaru GPS antenna? Last question: Is it possible to convert my current HK non-GPS head unit to a GPS Unit? |

Came home from work today excited to open my package which was supposed to have my 7" headunit...only to find out they shipped me someone else's order. I got what looks like a Nissan headunit intended for some lady named Myra in Texas.... Pretty infuriated and bummed at the same time since my harness from AutoHarnessHouse just shipped and so did my JDM gauge hood, which I was gonna install all at once. I sent an angry message to the eBay seller, so let's see what they can do for me, if anything at all. |

Anyone have any tips on removing the two 10mm bolts that secure the stock headunit from the sides? I used a regular wrench with a 6 in. extension and lost my one and only 10mm socket into the depths of the center stack today...
Might have to buy something like these guys to get it out: https://www.amazon.com/Acekit-T-hand.../dp/B07DLD5YG9 https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Rubber.../dp/B00B0Q5M7Y |

The good news is I got it for $97 shipped, so it was relatively cheap. I thought about keeping my 6.2" unit for a split second as a backup, but after thinking about it, I'll probably sell that for some quick cash. I can't imagine going back to that unit after using the much-improved 7" unit. Once this one dies I'll probably bite the bullet and go aftermarket. Next step for me is probably getting a small amp i.e. Alpine Power Pack. The new HU is much better but still feels a tad underpowered. |

get the power pack. I've done it and it really makes things so much better. I'm completely happy right now...until the 2019's ship with the android auto enabled units..then I'll be watching like a hawk for somebody to smash up their brand new cars lol.

I have a 2018 STI base model with a FV833UM 7" unit.
Is it worth it to swap for a forester unit or are they pretty much the same? |
