Post OT: Hearing the same complaints on the A4 board

I was checking out the Audi forum and they are having somewhat of the same "discussion" on the 02 A4. The rear end is redesigned and I see alot of the same complaints there that I see here when soa released pics of the new imp. Some people like the new A4 redesign and some hate it. On this board you hear "fugly" and over there you hear "baby got back".

both front and end pictures of it were on the link to the vwvortex on that thread.. i think the current A4 looks "sharper n more dynamic" (i.e., older, hehe) but the redesign doesnt look all that bad, id say it looks pretty nice, and i hate the looks of all vw's too

Suby's right tho, as much as they complain they cant say the overall looks of the car got as drastically screwed up as the impreza did (not that i hate the new look of the impreza either..)

Thumbs up

i think i'll like it. but i'll have to see it in person, cause when the current A6 came out i wasn't into the rear at all, but when i saw in the metal i fell in love (especially the avant). Hopefully i'll have the same reaction when the avant version of the new A4 is unveiled.

i agree with you, 8. and for some reason the rear door just makes me want to tilt my head to the side, but it still doesn't look quite right.

With the new A4, can somebody tell me what the difference between it & the A6 is? The insides look just as luxurious and the exterior sizes and styling now look equal on both models.

& I'm assuming the new A4 is pretty heavy if the FWD manual trannied 220 hp V6 model takes 6.9 seconds to hit 60 mph.

Hope the shifter is smoother then the current A4 though.

I still think the new 3 series look way nicer than the upcoming Audis. Have you guys noticed that every new iteration of the 3 series, it only look much better? Just when you thought the previous generation was hte best it can be and now the new ones look even better! Something i can notice only from BMW.
THe X5 is an exception like all SUVs - the ugly bastards of any car company.

Not bad. The 02 A4 actually looks nice. My friend has a 97 a4T. It kicks @$$. The only thing missing on it is the AWD system.

I love almost everything about my A4. The only downside, which will be taken care of as soon as I have a steady income, are the wheels ... they're 15"; I want 16". Aside from that I love it. Now admittedly, I have the lowest of the low ... a front-wheel drive automatic, but it really is a great car ... it handles well (as well as it can for having puny 15" tires, at least); it rides well; it accellerates well (with some turbo lag, of course).

The pics of the new A4 are not to my liking, but then I'm reserving judgement until I see it in person. I do agree that the rear end of the new A4 is awful looking. It looks to me like a squared-off A6. I even like the A6 a lot, but part of that is due to its roundness. The A4's rear looks like it was cut out of the A6's rear.

Subiracer-I agree it does look like its missing something.

Audiguy-since you own both an A4 and an RS which one do you prefer? Is your A4 chipped?

Looks like Audi decided to take the "fun" out of the A4 and replace it with the "luxury" from the A6...

Oh, and I think the new Scoobies rear end is a great improvement over the current-80's looking rear end!

FUBAR:

Actually, it's difficult for me to compare since they are so different. Because the Suby is a stick, it's easily more fun than the A4. Also, my A4 isn't chipped, so it's not nearly as fast as it could be. I hope to chip it soon, but, as noted in the earlier post, I'm waiting for my budgetary concerns to work themselves out. On the flip side, the A4 is definitely a sweet car. Looks-wise, the A4 wins hands-down. Not that I dislike the Suby, but the A4 is just such a classy looking car, IMHO. Also, and to nobody's surprise, the interior of the A4 wins in a landslide. I love the climate control, and the leatherette feels so much like leather that nobody who doesn't already know it's not real leather can tell a difference ... and even those who know can't! Handling goes to the Suby, primarily due to its 16" wheels/tires and the AWD system. So, in a nutshell, I don't know! Sorry.

I'm tellin' ya, it has the A6's butt, and wheels from a Lexus IS-300.

Looks nice, but I'm anxious to see what Audi does with the new S4. Which I'm guessing will come out for 2003 or so...

It's ugly. It looks like the A6 rear end, which I personally hate and it looks porky (slow and heavy). Not very aggresive in my opinion.

By the way, why does Audi change their body style every four years? How can you buy one of these cars and expect the style to last?

Oh well, it looks to me as if there are NO good choices for AWD Turbo performance sedans - not the new Subaru WRX and not the Audi A4(S4).

You subie guys are really making me rethink my membership on this site...

That car is freakin sweet. Looks like they took the best parts of the TT, the luxury of the A6, and hopefully the tuneability of the A4 and put it all in one package. What, you don't like it because there's no non-functional hoodscoop? Come on!

Let your tastes grow up and mature a little. I want one of these babies bad (note the dual exhaust...mmmmm)

dude, what are u talking about?

fisrt off even the guys on the AUDI BAORD are saying its ugly. its all a matter of an individuals taste, it has nothin to do with the wether u own in impreza or not. many of us stated that the old audi was an awsome looking car and it looks nothing like an impreza. those are some really crazy assumptions ur making there.
its the first time anyone on this board has seen the picture of the new A4 and naturally itll look akward and strange to us, that is usaully the reactions people have when ever a newly redesigned car comes out.like many of us on this board will sit here and tear apart the looks of the new IMPREZA all day, and it has plenty of vents and scoops by the way. and if u take a look at some of the honda boards there are plenty of people who are doin the same thing with the new generation civic.
just becuz some people dont like the way a certain redesigned car looks at first the same way that u like it, ur gonna reconsider ur membership and then say that we need to grow up?

unless u werent serious, and if u werent serious i apologize fro taking ur post too seriously. i just dont understand ur post.

Real simple, since you don't understand, I'll explain.

Almost everyone on this board hated the new Imp. But now, I dare say almost half of those who HATED it now like it, if not love it. Now in this thread, virutally everyone is bashing this new A4. Why? So in two months they can worship the road it drives on? People should just look at it a while, look at it some more, and then come to a conclusion before hitting that "post reply" button with a knee jerk reaction.

The new A4 is a great, modern, sporty looking car. I hope I can afford one in about a year or so.

And no, I still don't like the new Impreza, and especially not the new Civic.

Cool

Hey AlphaDog, sorry I did not mean to dis the new A4 or anyone who likes Audi. It was simply my opinion that the new body looks less aggresive than the old one.

I love the current A4 and in fact, considering buying a used S4. I'm really wondering what the new body will do to the value of the current A4 and S4s. I have heard that 2001 will be the last year for the S4.

I think Audi has also made a mistake in engine selection. From their website, they will not offer the new 2.0 4-cylinder engine with a Turbo option, rather only the old 1.8T engine. I think this is a mistake.

But again, just my opinion.

Audiguy: "Now admittedly, I have the lowest of the low..."

No you don't. The lowest of the low is a base 100 bhp A4 1.6 with manual, no air-con and windy-up windows. You just can't *buy* it where you are .

I hope the new A4 isn't lardy, a la E46 BMW etc. As to whether each BMW gets better and better, isn't that a matter of taste? It is odious to compare a new design with one ten or fifteen years old and ignore hindsight.
