Jeff,

Does the new STi still have the VF43? Is the exhaust manifold design the same?

...i can't wait to see this thing. I'm hoping for great things, despite the "boycott the 08 sti" band of trolls roaming the boards lately. I think i might just have to start really saving for this thing.

But most of these were done in 4th gear, and 12 second runs. So if our 2008 STI makes about the same using the higher gear, then if we did it in 4th, it would show a bit more power. Before we go to far with the car, we will try some 4th runs just for fun. The problem is that with stock turbos, and a good IC, and exhaust, the TQ the STI can put out, might over come the holding TQ of the dyno (at really row RPM). Doing 5th gear solves the problem. For us its not about the number, more of the difference from one to another. So its good to keep things as consistent as possible.
So what kind of HP differences should one expect to see between 4th & 5th gear pulls?

Haven't gotten that far. The turbo is different, but not sure of the number. Its a normal WRX type turbo, but i didn't catch the number. The compressor housing doesn't have the huge offset like past STI's.

We are taking pics right now, with the right wheels, and some of the subtle graphics we have planned, i think people will go nuts!

Not much, say 10 or so. When it comes down to proving a part, or dynoing things back to back, if we changed gears between runs, it throws a wrench in the equation. We are not here to trick people and show HP gains that are not truely there.

I hope you do not think I am questioning your integrity in any way. Just curious.

I wonder if the 08 head could be used on the other year STI. That would be awesome especially with avcs now being on the exhaust side.

Jeff - Any general thoughts on the new STi compared to previous STi's (handling, ergonomic, power). We're read the magazine reviews, but it'd be nice to hear it from someone in the subbie community.

Well so far, there are no numbers in the normal spot. So it will have to come off the car to figure out which one it is.

I am 99% sure it can, but to control the other AVCS cam would be tricky. Plus the newer thicker oil pump, and oil lines would be needed. Not sure if its worth doing. But soon we will find out!

Lots of thoughts! I am putting together a whole write up on the car in the next couple of days. Compared to the 06 STI, Ergonomics is much better. A quick test drive will sell you on that. Power, seems the same, but smoother. The car overall is smoother than the older STI.

Lots more to come!

Jeff, you're saying it has the 12mm pump? (vs. the old 10mm?)

Means we'll get the 12mm pump in the states now!

You got it! This will be a good upgrade for the non-dual AVCS guys building motors!

For 100% its not a twinscroll. It has a normal uppipe, and header. At least normal for the US!

Yikes Hopefully the pistons have been beefed up a bit to handle the crappy tune.

The pistons work fine for 14psi, and some knock. Look at how well they hold in Cali with 91! At least in stock form. Some knock is ok, but lot of knock at high boost, not ok.

Our car had audible knock once and a while. This was the ECU testing the waters for Timing advance. Most people may not hear it driving down the road because of the noise. But on the Dynapack, you can hear everything!
