![]() Ok so here is my situation. My 2018 Impreza Limited lease is up in June/July. It was a typical 36 month 10k miles/year lease. I just recently hit 12k miles so I am way under my mileage terms.
If I turn in my car to my dealer and do not lease/finance another Subaru from them, am I due any kind of payment for having so little mileage? I remember when my '15 Impreza lease was up and I got into this one, the sales team's whole demeanor changed when I mentioned how (similarly) low the mileage was on that car. Suddenly they were offering me much lower monthly payment options than they were previously. That leads me to believe that might have been because they took whatever money I *could* have received and just rolled into the new car. I could obviously be totally wrong too, **** if I know, that is why I am asking lol. If Subaru does not offer something like that, can I turn in my Subaru lease to another dealership, such as Toyota, and use it towards a trade in?

![]() unless you somehow have verbiage in your contract with subaru, they wont give you anything for not running up to the allowed miles.

![]() You have options. Call your local Subaru dealer where you'd turn it in, tell them the mileage and ask them. One of my co-workers always leased and always negotiated at turn in time. He said that the salesman said that most people don't even think of negotiating. Could even be an unexpectedly high value that puts money in your pocket.
Of course, you can trade it in. You also could buy it, which if it's been a good car isn't a bad idea. You've got a turbo Subaru that you know hasn't been beaten to within an inch of its life (unless of course you did beat it to within an inch of its life). |

![]() A dealer can purchase your car, just like you can buy it yourself. Why not visit a dealer and propose a trade on your leased vehicle. A dealer can work out a deal, you can then make an informed decision.

![]() You should absolutely negotiate.
Think about it. The lease terms are designed around what: 1) the car costs new 2) what you pay them over three years 3) what it will be worth on the used market with the total term mileage So you didn't even come close to the mileage, so obviously you gave them back a used car worth WAY more than what they were expecting (if you went over the mileage you'd be paying right???) Only problem is, being a lease, you don't have a great position, especially if you aren't buying again, because what are you really going to do? |

![]() Your best option to get real information is to find the vehicle you want to buy and ask them.

![]() Your lease contract is the final word if you plan to walk in and toss them the keys and walk away from the lease. Usually there's a $300 Disposition fee if you do that. This is in the print of the contract and is between you and the lease company, it has nothing to do with the individual dealer.
As a general courtesy dealers wave or roll up this fee into a new lease or purchase. Yes you can negotiate several options, at any dealership or brand, as a Trade In, but very rarely will a dealer outright Buy a leased vehicle and you walk away cash positive in hand. My guess about leases is that they kind of have you by the balls, but I don't really know. Anyhow, go somewhere else and just tell them your situation, worst case they say it won't make a difference |

![]() Walk into a dealer for the vehicle you want, explain to the sales person that your leased vehicle term is expiring and you want to hear what kind of deal is possible trading in. They are going to want to see the terms of your lease, what the residual value is and if it’s worth it for them to buy the car from the bank, if there is money to be made. It’s not like you’d be committed to buy or lease from them nor the other way around. By sitting down and going thru the motions you’ll be able to judge what is your best path. Otherwise you are just waisting your time theorizing.
