Default 2012 2.0i - engine ping?

Anybody else getting an engine ping while your car is running and after you turn it off and start to walk away? Not sure if this is normal for a new vehicle (didn't happen in my previous 3 vehicles). Kind of annoying when im sitting there with my windows down and i can hear a little clink clink clink clink.

Everything expands and retracts during the heating a cooling process. It happened in your previous vehicles you are just now noticing. Every vehicle i had did this and every vehicle that produced heat and then cools will do this.

Engine ping aka "knock" happens when the engine is under load usually while accelerating. Can sound like there's diesel under the hood.

Every car i have owned/currently own does this. It's mainly the exhaust when it starts cooling.

Im not sure a Ping could be mistaken for a knock. that would have to be one hell of a ping. i associate knock to rod knock.

I hear that. My Suzuki Intruder used to sound like popcorn when it was cooling.

once you turn the vehicle off...it does click a time or two....I saw this in the longer impreza thread.....I honestly forgot what the cause was....but the explanation appeared to say it was a normal function of the car.....I notice it every time I turn it off, if I sit in the car and listen for it......

Does anyone not remember science class?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_expansion
Is the same reason when you have a stuck bolt you put a torch on it for half a min and then you can twist it off like normal. Or when you are putting race's in your hubs and you put them in the freezer to reduce their size before you press them in.

____

The noise you hear when the engine is cooling is absolutely normal.
