i think subaru should do everything with the EZ series that they did with the EJ series -> make them lego together.
the only way that engine seems bearable in a smaller car is to strap a huge turbo (maybe 2) on it.
it just seems like subaru doesn't try very hard on their NA engines..........

I was pleasently satisfied with the EG33 in the SVX...but the SVX was to boaty plus it was an auto...but boy that thing could move up high... I can't wait to see how it runs in the 1000lbs less...Legacy

are you upgrading your breaks as well?
i rode in my friends ef hatch (honda civic) which he swapped an H22A into.
i'll agree it was quick, but the handling was terrible, and so was the breaking.
thats all i'm saying about putting the 3.3 and 3.6 in lighter cars, all that extra weight on the front wheels. how much more does the eg33 weigh than the ej22?

I'm not to sure. But I'm going to guess 100lbs but no more then that. The EG33 is an EJ22 with just 2 extra cylinders. I was going to put Ceramic pads in on my next brake job... which was going to be soon. My car brakes like a champ anyway...she's all disc all around. If the handeling is bad I plan on replacing the front sturts with those on the SVX...they fit...Horray for Subaru!

I doubt the EZ motors weigh much more (if anything) than an EJ. same external dimensions, plastic intake mani...

not true with the EGs....and I bet jedz is right....maybe 100lbs.

I have every intent of running a boosted EZ in my wagon someday....

i just assumed since there is about 1000cc more of displacement, there would be a lot more weight just like inline engines.
please excuse my ignorance.
good luck on the build tho, i've been following your progress and have contemplated putting an eg33 in my rx since they are showing up cheaply on ebay once in a while.

someone hasn't done their reading...the motor/crank isn't stroked...change the rods and you loose your extra stroke(if you don't retain same geometry)...according to the article at least.

No, I know the stroke is due to the rods. But that rod design along with the longer are probably not very good for turboing. You can change them of course, but that moves this into the more obsene levels of swapage rather than just throwing this motor in as it is and maybe running some bolt ons and some basic tuning...

yeah, taking out the rods and going with tradition rods leave a thin walled 3.2L...everything about it is simple but pre-bent rods don't make for good high power applications

now this would be a motor for my 914. Wiring hell yes, but if i make it carb'd and go without alot of the wire mess it might just work, haha.

whoever does this first as a swap on any car has got a great pwrplant to run off of.

The only option for making more power in this motor easily would be higher comp pistons and a cam if someone starts making them...I just don't see being able to do too much with the internals...unless you go with a really custom rod then I could see getting a bit more stroke from it (but I'm not talking)...

We already know about the Perrin H6 conversion. It wasnt the first H6 swaped Impreza either. And thats not the 3.6, thats the 3.0.

Null as in void posting...read my reason for an edit...I missed the part about the "porkchop rod" and got all preachy about rod/stroke ratios, BDC & TDC dwell and last but not least piston acceleration.

I really want to put a 3.6 in my wifes OB with a 6 spd, coilovers, silver Brembo's and the pretty spec c wheels. Repaint in PSM. I'll tell you tomorrow when I'm going to start the build if my lottery numbers pan out.

New Tribeca engine is pretty sweet, isn't it? I'm going to assume, perhaps incorrectly, that Subaru also revamped the '08 Legacy H-6 models similarly? (Though the stats are probably a little lower on torque/power, I'd assume...)

I will say that the new Legacy H-6 looks pretty sexy. Don't need to buy an Outback for it, anymore!!!

I'm convinced that we'll see a twin-turbo Legacy STI with this puppy, in it. Or at least a guy can pray.

I don't know.. After reading the other 3 year long thread about the ez30 swap. I have no idea what would make you want to attempt this one. The wiring will be more difficult. Everything is getting immobilizers, and tons of computers for emissions and can-bus systems. Nightmare if you ask me.

Plus the power output is about that of a basic modded 2.0 turbo. I'd swap in the 2.0 liter anyday over a 6 cylinder. The 2.0 liter is such a better platform to start with, and you have plenty of room to grow upon it should you get the bug.

So unless you just like being different, have lots of money to spend, lots of time to spend. Go for it! But hey, anything is possible with the funds.

Much better off putting a 2.5l turbo in your 914. It is lighter and more hp potential. There is even a kit with the parts to do it. You'd be a fool to use a 3.6 with the added expense, increased weight and much less hp potential.

The 3.6 weighs as much as any of the turboed EJ motors. Perhaps less now that it lost 10lbs compaired to the 3.0.

As for power, most of the transmissions used for the 914 swap are restricted in terms of how much power/torque they can take, so running a high power turboed EJ would be tough.
