And NE dealers are cut-throat, so I'd expect 0 negotiations.
That was 90 cars in one quarter for just NY region, on par with the 86 in terms of volume of cars per quarter. So there is hope that it won't be stupidly scarce.

markups will exist until people willing to pay adm run out. then they'll sit until dealers stop asking for it. Honestly, with housing prices continuing to skyrocket, inflation rising, people are going to have to stop with the silliness at some point, and my guess is that the auto market will be one of the first to bounce.

this is a really tempting package... man. what a car.

Let’s hope so because paying 45-50+ for one of these is ridiculous. And frankly I see it happening because not only are Subie fans flocking to this with the lack of an STI but also Golf R prospective buyers as the supply for that is thin.

At that point you’re better off getting a WRX and doing light modding. Just 50hp gain on the WRX already making more power than this. The 1.3 engine will be a limitation for modding while the 2.4 has more room.

At this point if you gave me a choice I’d choose the gr, but reality will probably sink in once it hits the market and it just wouldn’t make sense. At least for me.

Not a fan of the tri-exhaust, mainly the center section which prohibits a tow bar, but honestly, we're getting my wife a highlander, so it's really a non-issue.

So glad my deposit is in at MSRP. Getting everything I want. 300 HP, diffs, and it sounds like even downshift rev matching. All the predictions I thought would happen did.

Marketing for the G16. 3 cylinder turbo. Meh, it'll get chunked in the aftermarket. People are already getting hung up on that. Beggars can't be choosers. 300HP, hatch, 6MT, Torsen Front and Rear LSD's. Let those who can't handle the FACTORY exhaust eat cake and buy something else.

Man, so tempting. I told myself I wouldn't consider a GR Corolla unless I can get it for MSRP or less, and for $40k or less... It's weird wanting a car and not really being concerned about the exterior color. I just want the top trim.

Serious question: If I'm willing to travel across the country for a good deal, what's the best option? Should I just shoot out emails to places with good reputations and see who's willing to stick to MSRP? I know some dealerships won't give deals to anyone who isn't local.

The last place I wanna travel is back to Alaska, but if that's where the best deal is, well... *shrug*

Honestly you really are screwed for the first production year. Production is going to be limited and there are too many nuts like myself who've put in 1k deposits weeks or months ago. Finding a MSRP only stealer is a massive undertaking. After you complete that mission, if you don't get in on the first couple of slots, you aren't getting a car. For most that want it, it's going to be 18-24 months after the first ones hit the lots. I'm #2 on a list for a MSRP only stealer. I wanted to take delivery Nov 2023 but at this point with this info I have, I'm going to have to buy it sooner if I even get the option to get one. Don't know if my stealer I'm purchasing from will even get more than one at this point, for the first production year.

Yeah it just comes down to timing. I'm in no rush to replace my Impreza, but I also don't want to get completely screwed over on a new car. I don't want it THAT badly, but man I do miss rowing my gears and hearing a good engine roar. I have the money to put down a sizable deposit, but I'm not familiar with any Toyota dealers besides the one back in Anchorage Alaska.

I might have to start contacting some of the local ones today and see what feedback I get. I checked out Google reviews for 4 local Toyota dealers and they're all reputable.

I'm thinking my other bet is contacting a dealer located somewhere that isn't heavily populated or is more remote, like somewhere up in Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine. Less competition for other buyers. I know they exist, but they're rare.

Please do keep us posted on your progress. All I'm really waiting for now is pricing.

I can't buy mine til probably Dec 2024 or June 2025, to avoid storing the car - otherwise I'd have done what you did.

You can google MSRP only Toyota dealers. There is a list on the gr86 forum too. Trust me it was quite the challenge. I have an in state stealer that is much closer to me than the one I will be buying from that does MSRP only. But they refused to take a deposit 2 weeks ago. I mean it's so bad people are putting in deposits at 2, 3, up to 6 dealers on this deal. So it's going to be worse, much much worse, than when I bought my RS. Total cluster. If the leaked info is accurate, 1080 cars for first production year, and I think all will be launch editions a la Supra style with Yota. Some are stating 1 per stealer so that puts me out on the first run. I could call back that dealer who wouldn't take a deposit but I'm not going boxing, f all that. And MSRP on this thing is akin to invoice pricing before the pandemic. There are going to be absolutely stupid ADM from so many thieves. STi getting cancel culture is just going to make it 100% worse. I emailed my stealer this morning, she responded, and told her that I'll take delivery much sooner if need be but my target is still end of next year. I don't care about the CF roof or the vents in the hood as that is just cosmetic stuff. Launch editions are mostly fluff to me. I think after launch editions there will be a circuit pack type option with body colored roof and that's probably when I will get mine.

Also to note given what you said....many Yota stealers are moving to an in state purchase model. If you're out of state you are SOL. They are refusing. That will probably become more commonplace and remain intact until all this chip shortage nonsense is historical.

I'm not too far behind in this regard. If I have to buy it earlier than I want just to get one, it'll be stored in my own garage. When I buy something like this it's a couple of grand for PPF, ceramic coating, nano tint, and winter wheels/tires. If I have to buy early none of that is going to happen and not driving it until protected since it is the last thing like this I'm ever going to buy. 20 year car for me. It's also too early to speculate too much on buying. It will be a got damn 3 ring circus. I just hedged my bets and $ to make sure I get one at all.

Speculation, but it may be a similar setup as the CTR where the center is a resonator for more exhaust noise when going full-clap - exhaust is quiet when you are below a certain throttle input, once you cross that threshold the resonator is engaged and bingo-bango louder exhaust on demand while still meeting noise requirements under "normal" driving conditions without the need for mechanical flaps/butterflies in the exhaust system (that are prone to failure).

Around 2024 I'm looking to make a purchase of a fun ICE 6mt that I'm going to hang onto long term. Currently this car and the GR86/BRZ are at the top of that list. Honestly, I'm really intrigued by the 3cyl engine and that's a huge draw to this car for me. I think that the GR86/BRZ is in the lead because it's more of a "sports car" configuration, but man, this engine and drivetrain are really intriguing.

In the GR Yaris it's in the hatch area under the "floor", leaked pics indicate this is probably the case with the GR Corolla as well.

Edit: power/tunability headroom was brought up earlier somewhere in the thread.
Motive in Australia has been building a GR Yaris for circuit and drag racing - 485hp at the hubs on stock internals is where the OE multilayer steel head gasket gave up. No damage to the head, block, or head studs, but coolant was seeping through the layers of the head gasket in cylinder 2. They've rebuilt the top end, it now makes over 500hp at the hubs with a set of cams so they can run less boost, but still the stock head gasket and studs as there isn't anything aftermarket (it also has a dogbox now).

At 300hp out of the box, the GR Corolla is going to be fun, I think a tune & better flowing exhaust will net a reasonable wheel horsepower figure safely and that will be enough for most; if people start chasing big power, it appears to be doable, but I'd assume dropping big money would be in their future as even if the engine is stout, you're just going to find the weakest link, then the next... then the next.....

I hope it comes in Neptune blue (aka Voodoo blue, aka Grecian water)
