Post Black soot on muffler?

I've been getting really bad mileage(worse than before) with my Ganz intake and stromung. The muffler has black soot on it. Does this mean I'm running rich? Will going from 89 octane to 87 help or make it worse? Any suggestions or other help would be nice. THanks.

Did you reset your ECU - very important to do. Also use the highest octane available, as this will allow the most aggressive timing advance, which might clean things up a bit. I get a little soot every few days, but i have an AFC and ITC. I run 92 gs, and reset the ECU every couple weeks.

It took me about a month to get the gas mileage back to normal after resetting the ECU with intake and Stromung. It was only city mileage that was down, but not freeway mileage, because there was more full throttle operation in the city.

I went from 22city/27hwy stock, to 18city/28hwy for a month after the intake, and then started to see 22city/28hwy again after about 4 weeks or so... Part of it was re-training the ECU for optimum fuel economy, and part was training myself to lay off the gas pedal

The MY00 will still soot up a little after this, even when mileage is back to normal, because of being a little richer at startup and WOT, but the ECU will give you good mileage again when using the O2 sensor for fuel settings. And, if you can afford to run higher octane gas, reset the ECU when you make the change.
