Default Is this a good deal on an Outback XT?

I'm about to make an deposit (refundable) on a new 2005 Outback XT Limited for $26,400 (or $27,700 w/ tax, ttl, plates).

Gold, manual, leather (std), moonroof (std), dimming mirror, cargo nets

Its last years model (new), so there's obviously incentives to move it.
Edmunds puts it at $28,000 as the "true market value" including current incentives.

Is this a good deal?

You should be looking at an H2 or Escalade for your wife to drive the baby around in.

This will be her car. And...I've trained her well; she said and I quote "you couldn't pay me to buy an SUV"

A gold Outback? Good thing it's an XT, or else it would come with a complimentary AARP card.

You've obviously never seen one. Its the best looking color out there, IMHO. The silver on grey is a close second.

This excludes the black, which is dead sexy...but too tough to keep clean.

Question

Another question...I've read plenty of situations of dealers "throwing in" options "for free" to make the deal. True? Is this worth bothering with?

The armrest extender, the security system upgrade, airfilter, subwoofer and all-weather mats would be nice...any or all of them.

No, I have... Gold just isn't my first choice for a car. But I'm not hatin'. I'd be perfectly happy to trade our Accord for it. Good choice.

If you can afford to walk away, I highly recommend it.

Be interested, then say you want to think about it. Walk out. Don't call or come back.

If they want you, they'll be calling in two days.

It never hurts to ask. At worst they're going to say no.
Use one of their lines on them...."if you give me the XXXX you've got a deal".
If its reasonable they'll say yes. If not they'll say no.

Yap. with edmunds you can see their cost for the option, and say, hey, 'we're just talking about another $XXX and I'll sign'.

they are more apt to throw in options than lower the price, since those items will be considered at cost.
