Is my car a 12 second car?
I recently went to the track and this was my best time. Needless to say i am between not good and kind of bad at launching my car. But I have been practicing and I believe I am much better at it now.
r/t; .715 60'; 2.072 330; 5.700 1/8; 8.687 mph; 82.72 1000; 11.292 1/4; 13.468 mph; 104.04 So what do you guys think is 12 seconds whithin grasps? 2003 wrx stock motor 6 speed 18g (22 psi) 7.. injectors fmic ect.ect.ect

R/T can be significantly reduced. the trick I learned is to launch on the 3rd light just above the green. If you get the 60' time down to a 1.7~1.8 you may be able to pull out a high 12. Your final mph definitely refects a high 12 second pass. In my 2011 wrx I was able to hit a 12.9 @ 103mph with a 1.8 60'.

I know, I never mentioned that it did play a factor. Just something to practice on. 60' is where it is all at.

You can milk a 12.9x with that power and weight (basing this off of the 2.0 60' and the 104mph).
When I used to drag my old fox chassis mustang I was also trying to get as deep as I could in the ET with not much MPH(power) to work with. Generally speaking, a tenth improvement in the 60' time can equate to as much as 1.5-2.0 tenths in the ET (assuming you don't miss a shift or change anything else drastically). Also you'll likely loose mph as you improve your 60' and drop your ET. the bolded has always been pretty accurate in my experience, and I've heard it elsewhere as well! Disclaimer: your results may vary EDIT: Before anyone gets upset, I must say this has been my experience for cars mostly running 12s-14s. I don't race 8-10 second cars. I was able to hit a 12.48(109) with a 1.68 60 foot in my speed 6 (347-348 wheel)... But with 60 foots in the high 1.7-9 range it was high 12s(107 range).. That car was heavy mofo though 3550 without me in it I weigh around 200lbs now
I don't drag my rex.. I bet if you cut it down to like a 1.7-8 It would be right there close or at 12.9 |

Here's your times and distances and my calculated speeds in ft/sec and calculated accelerations in ft/sec^2. It may be accurate to better than 10%.

A general rule of thumb, is every tenth dropped from you 60ft is roughly 2 tenths at the 1/4. If you dropped your 60ft from 2.0 to a 1.7, that is roughly .6 dropped in the 1/4. With an 18g you should definitely be mid-low 12's. What fuel? What RPM are you launching at? That trap speed seems fairly low for an 18g.
Usually a stage 2 STi (granted displacement difference and torque) they are trapping in the 106-110 range pending boost levels (18-21psi on pump 93) and ranging between 12.4-12.8 in the quarter. Hope this helps. -BJ |

I came up with slightly different numbers and here's how I did it.
Your distances and times follow a smooth curve as given by Dist = A x t^B = 17 x t^1.7, with A = 17 and B = 1.7, as seen below and gives a close fit without using a much more complicated formula. dist time dist = At^B 60 2.1 60.0 330 5.7 327 660 8.7 672 1000 11 1002 1320 13 1331 I changed the formula to give 12 sec and watched how the other values fell out. The new formula uses A = 19.3 and B = 1.7 dist time dist = At^B 60 1.94 59 330 5.26 325 660 8.03 666 1000 10.15 993 1320 12.00 1319 and gives a 60' elapsed time of 1.94 seconds. Assuming this curve multiplication is valid, you need to change your 0 to 60' average speed from 29 ft/sec to 31 ft/sec and your acceleration from 28 ft/sec^2 to 32 ft/sec^2. One way to confirm this method is to look at distances and times and speeds for other similar cars and see how their curves shift up or down to get their distances and times. |

Tweaking the numbers, I think you need 1.84 seconds in the first 60'.
dist .....time .....predicted dist = 22.3 x t^1.65 60 .....1.84 .....61.0 330 .....5.07 .....324.4 660 .....7.72 .....650.6 1000 .....10.04 .....1003.4 1320 .....12.00 .....1345.7 The formula now fits your actual time and distance within +/-2% and with these two columns, speed and acceleration at each distance marker can also be figured. Yet, these two similar performing cars dist time 0 0 60 2.515 330 6.313 660 9.304 1000 11.901 1320 14.084 60 2.07 330 5.7 660 8.69 1000 11.3 1320 13.5 seem to say that for every half second slower in the 60' time you also lose a half second in 1320' time. The best way I can explain and help with you getting out of the hole a lot better and quicker, and this sounds ridiculous, is to find a dirt/gravel road. As weird as it sounds, it helped me a lot with being able to launch my car when I first got it (6 years ago). What it did is was rev it to 4000-4500rpms (letting it bounce up and down between there, this was before I had Launch Control), I would release the clutch to where the engagement point is, but not where it is going to move (as if you are staging at the track), and on the upward rise of the rpms, I would slightly release it a little to where you are feeling the car move forward, then dump the clutch mid engagement. If you don't break the tires loose, then you didn't do it correctly. This sounds insane haha but thats how I have been pulling between lower 1.6's to 1.75 60' times on street tires.
