Nice choice man. I debated all the things you did and went the refined route. Either way congrats.

Nice choice! I tried really hard to like the GTI/VW, but it just didn't do it for me. If the VW dealers were able to work with on the R, I may have ended up with that. But even so, I am happy with my choice.

It's at Ocean County Park. Right by my work and I frequent it often on my lunch. Drove through with the STI and knew I had to stop and snap some pics.

Good guess! But it's actually a different park. See above

I'm in a similar situation as you, it's time to get rid of my Legacy and I looked at the Golf R and Focus RS. I was done with the R when I finally saw one in the parking lot at work and I was bored of looking at it after 10 feet, that and the price difference vs. STi isn't worth it. I was able to test drive the Focus RS but I was very uncomfortable in the seats, so that's out. Maybe if they're out for a while and the PTU shutdown gets fixed I'll look back at it again.

I plan on getting a 2018 STi in a couple months when I'm finished paying for preschool. Aside from the 19" wheels(I dislike them) I'm in for the updates on the STi. One of the reviews I saw looked like the fog lights were an option. I agree that without them the front looks bad.

Pretty much my same conclusions I had. The golf r on paper and quality is awesome. Definitely a fun car, but I got really bored of it just looking at it. Didn't do anything for me. The RS, I never got a chance to drive because Ford dealers think they are Porsche 918's. I did get a chance to sit in a few and start them up though. I fit in the seats nicely, so that wasn't a concern. I just wasn't 100% sold on the overall look (I hate the rear) and of course the massive mark ups.

I am totally in for the 18 sti updates. Really liked the thicker windows for less road noise, recaros, and the other smaller updates. Not to say the plastic fog piece on the 15-17's is pretty, but the 18 just didn't do it for me. I felt as if they just changed it for the sake of changing it. I also wasn't a fan of the bright, look at me calipers. Either way, I am sure I'll see them on the road and like them. I just wanted to get into one now as I really like the current gen.

Welcome back! I too had a hatch (2011 sti) and sold it because the interior quality was just awful.

And I too had to come back to Subaru, ended up in a '16 Hyper Blue sti. The fit and finish is just miles ahead of the GR's.

I will say, you should have looked for one with the Harmon Kardon package. It's well worth it.

Nice. I agree, it is a big upgrade in terms of quality and materials used from the GR. Still room for improvement though!

I initially did, but they only had red on the lot with that package. I didn't want red and paying nearly 4k extra for speakers and navi wasn't worth it to me. I'd rather put a way less than 4k into better speakers, sub, and an amp and keep my car payment lower. Just my two cents!

Evening everyone

So it looks like I've run into my first issue. I was installing an led bulb in my trunk. Lit up just fine. Walked away for a minute and came back to the light off. Thinking it turned off after being on for a few, I tried closing and reopening the trunk. Nothing. Put the stock bulb back in. Nothing.

Went to lock my car and key fob doesn't work. All other lights in the car look totally fine. Car starts as well.

At a total loss. Any ideas what could be the issue?

Try resetting the ECU? Otherwise I'd just take it to the dealer and make sure they don't try to wash it.

I disconnected the battery for about a minute last night and it didn't do anything. I am planning to take it to the dealer, but just a really strange issue. Never had it happened before and a big PITA on a 2 week old car.

Decided to dig a little deeper into this issue to see what is going on. Looks like fuse number 15 under the dash was blown. I guess installing interior LED's isn't an option since all I did was install a simple LED in the trunk and it blew. Found it very strange since I replaced my 13 WRX with led's and never experienced an issue. Now I am questioning any other LED's I have for the car (fogs, reverse lights, turn signals, etc.). Making me second guess installing any of these.

Fuse #15 under the dash. It was a 10amp fuse. Took a spare 10amp fuse under the hood and replaced. Trunk light working. Key fob working. Here is the culprit. Clean break.

I have practically every bulb replaced with LEDs except for my trunk, and haven't had the issue.

I feel like I've seen other people experience this with an LED bulb in the trunk. Maybe that's the problem?

I know, I thought it was very strange as well. Never had an issue blowing fuses on any car with changing any bulb (inside or out). I may just leave the trunk bulb alone and put the others in. Werid that the keyfob didn't work either. Just glad it's resolved.

Good to have you back man! I sold my 11' WRX back in summer of 2014 as my pop gave me his 2004 4Runner. Congrats on your 2nd kid as well!

I have too in the past on previous cars. Going to give it a go again with the other LED bulbs I have coming in.

What's being done: Detail/paint correction, LED License plate Lights, and Debdage

Got a few things done this weekend. One of my main priorities was bringing the paint to my standard after the dealership had their way with it. They put some serious swirls and hazing in the paint prior to picking the car up, so I knew I had my work cut out for me. I put about 22 hours into the car over the weekend and got it dialed in pretty well. Definitely more room for improvement, but I am happy with where it is currently. I plan getting the paint to at least 95% when I have a bit more time to dive into it.

While I was detailing, I decided to debadge the "subaru" and "awd symmetrical" on the trunk. I never understood why Subaru decides to write novels on the back of their cars, but in any case, I think it really cleaned up the rear. Amazing how easily the tape and badges came off of a new car. Took about 5 minutes to get it off and clean it up.

Lastly, I had some spare VLED LED license plate bulbs laying around from my previous WRX. Decided to throw them in while I wait for the other goodies to come this week. Got a nice haul coming so it should really tie it all together.

Finally hit the half way point of break in (500). Looking forward to finally breaking that 1k mark and enjoying the car even more. Haven't gone about 4k yet, so I am anxiously waiting for it to be over. I may have went to 4.5k a couple times though . Planning on changing the oil right after break in period and going to use 1 of my 2 free oil changes at the dealer. After I get through those, I will be moving to either Motul or Pennzoil.

I should be back sometime next weekend/week with a mod update. Nothing too substantial, but definitely exciting! Feels so good to be back wrenching on a real car again. I've missed this so much!

Some quick garage pictures from this afternoon. Waiting to get some warmer weather before I head out and get some good photos that I feel are acceptable to post.

Personally, I wouldn't even use the free oil changes. Maybe I just had unlucky experiences, but I had an issue with service every single time I took my car to the dealer, which was maybe 4 times in 3 years.

Did you request no wash or prep work on the paint? I'd be pretty pissed if they swirled up my brand new paint.

I like the plate lights. It's always a nice touch over the stock ones.

The dealer I got the car from is a very reputable local dealer. I am not too worried about it.

Unfortunately, I didn't request no prep work prior to delivery. I normally would request it, but having little to no time these days, I let it slide. Not a big deal as I enjoy dialing in paint. Gives me the time to really go over the car top to bottom and get familiar with the lines and just what I am working with.

Yeah, the plate lights really spruce it up. I still find it crazy how car brands are still using halogen bulbs on cars. LED is cheaper, cleaner, and looks way better.

- Say what?!

See I'm the opposite. I'd rather pay someone (reputable) to do it for me

I'm one of those crazy people who enjoys washing and detailing their own car. I take pride in my work as I have a lot of experience in the business. But taking your car to a reputable detailer is more than ok as well. All personal preference.
