I have to buy new boots, and I've always had laces. But i'm kind of considering getting boas. I ride a lot and i'm def not a beginner. Can anyone with experience with them, point me in the right direction of yes or no on them? Thanx

Been using boas for the past 2-3 seasons.
They are nice because I can adjust them on the fly, sometimes with my gloves on. I often let me feet breath a bit on the lift at the expense of making new friends.
Suck if you break a cable (they are available for free so keep a set packed with you), easy to replace though.
My only beef with them is that if the housing breaks you can't repair or replace them easily.
Laces are cool because of the no-tech and easy to swap out, but aren't as adjustable.
In short, I have 2 sets of boots with boas, no current boots with laces.

I started with a BOA system for one of my first boots, however I'd recommend against it.

I'm very picky about how my gear feals, and this is the exact reason why I've now converted to laces and will never look back. I like the ability to adjust how tight and or loose I want a specific section of my boot. Obviously, with BOA I couldn't do that. Personally if you're an experienced rider, I'd recommend staying with laces. It's more reliable, adjustable, and you can simply replace laces if they break.

Good luck.

Holy early season legs...

Snow was great at the top, a little heavy towards the bottom though.

They're calling for 16-22" Saturday night!

I liked my dual boa boots, until one of the ratchets broke after 15 or so days. Then I returned them and bought lace ups again.

I'm very pleased with my dual zone boas. I typically leave the lowers super loose and tighten the upper section. I did have a problem with ratchet getting stuck on a first gen boa about 4 years ago. (maybe 5?), but no problems since then.

I'll be at Crystal tomorrow. hoping I can get there for some early chairs. Calling for 4-8". 8" is on the lower range for deciding on bringing the pow board for me. Hopefully i'll be riding it.

Thanks guys, but I've decided to stick with old fashioned laces. Boas seemed like they'd be cool but I can spend a little extra time lacing em. Thanks for the input everyone!

Was treated to 9" at crystal yesterday and then they opened up the Northway in the late morning. Upper northway was super awesome, but the bottom track to the lift was a horrid mess of bumps and heavy chunky snow.

I have a whistler question for anyone that goes up there regularly. Whenever I've gone, I've stayed near the village so everything was in walking distance. I'll be up there for the new year and ended up booking a place in creekside. As far as I can tell, there is a free shuttle that runs around the village and Creekside. Does anyone know where I can find more info on it? I've searched and couldn't find much info. Is it part of the regular BC transit system? I'm trying to figure out where we can catch it and such.

Also, any recommendations for good food and brew in the creekside area?

I was very disappointed at crystal yesterday. Talk about wind burn! I did get a couple nice runs up at northway also but the bottom made it not worth the hike.

yeah, the wind was pretty fierce at the top of every chair. we probably got 7-8 runs at Northway before the legs told us we were done. Found a really fun drop that we hit a few times. Also Green Valley was good for the first 3 runs of the day until the line got super ridiculous. Did you hike over along that ridgeline lookers right of the chair? I imagine that was a windy affair. We didn't do any of the hiking. As soon as you drop down, the wind was pretty much a non factor.

Yes lines were bad all morning. Every run was pretty much ice by about 1-2pm. We hiked to the bowl on the back side. So when you get off the left when took a few steps up to the right to ride through the trees down to the groomed trail. Then rode that until it went flat and hiked up the ridge in front of up and onto the back side.

Yea I went to Leavenworth over Stevens Pass this morning from Seattle and barely any snow on the road but tons on the sides and slopes. On the way back, highway was all white and it is dumping up there.

Hip up Baker yesterday, it was glorious.....

Despite what you see in the pic, it dumped all day. We got a lucky sucker hole heading up chair 8 when I snapped that pic. Baker had gotten almost an inch of snow an hour on Saturday, then another 7" overnight. It was great from the top of down to the base of the higher lifts, then turned very wet and heavy. Good stuff, first official pow day of the year.

Wait, was baker empty or something? Why only one person on the chair ahead of you?

Nick and I got first chair up from White Salmon (perks of showing up around 8am) and most people went to Pan Dome while we went to chair 8. That was our second lift up on 8 and it was pretty much empty. We got about 4 runs before people started migrating over from Pan. Typical Baker though, no lift lines all day.

I knew it.
I just ....... knew it.
I had a horrible feeling this was going to happen.

I wanted to head down south to C. America for some training just prior to snow season but my schedule didn't work out that way.
The only thing I could find that worked was in Mexico, I fly out this week. I really wanted to get in some turns before I left.

Instead I've been mountain biking our local trails which give view to the light dustings at the foot of the Cascades. What a tease.

No pow shredding for me until I get back.

I'm not hating... Just disapointed .

um, i'd take international travel over pow days. Although, if its a work trip, maybe not.

Anyone have a gopro hero 3 black edition yet? I bought one last week and have to say that the battery life sucked really bad. I was done taking videos by 1030 or 11 on Saturday. I didn't even get to use the remote because the battery was dead by 930. Trying to figure out if that is par for the course for GoPro.
