Default Have you ever found a car you used to own?

The recent 'help my find my car' threads made me think about success stories. I once owned a 87' Corolla that I ended up selling to a girl. 4 years after I sold it I saw it parked at my friends apartment complex. It was for sale, the same girl was selling it. I got to take it for a spin and it was awesome driving it again. Before finding it I had dreams about driving it. It was a 2 door stick with RWD. A great first car.

I sold a CGM 2005 Stage 2 STi that had 36K miles on it roughly 2.5 years ago. The kid I sold it to is now trying to sell it with about 90K miles on it. Seriously... that's some miles.

Thumbs up

I had a 1989 Prelude SI when I was about 20 or so, and had a blast owning it. It was a 5 speed and my first manual car, albeit a honda...with DIY mods. I traded it in for a 1991 Acura Legend which was a much needed improvement.

Needless to say, 5 years later I was working at Circuit City as an installer and my old prelude drove up, with the new owner wanting a new head unit.

I was immediately excited to sit in the ol' beast again..just like old times.

I guess if you live in a smaller community it's easier to find previous cars. Probably much harder in larger cities. But it's possible.

I traded in my WRX with a slipping 4eat. I don't want to know who ended up with the car because that would make the situation a little more personal then I would feel like a douche.

No, never have seen one. Looked for a 428 mustang I had in the service, but never found it. RP

Btw, I love that this thread exists.

But this also reminds me an episode of "chasing classic cars" where they find the original owner of this Ferrari Daytona, and he buys it back and restores it.

I saw my '05 WRX in a bar parking lot a couple years after the sale. Had the same snow tires and stock rims that I left on it. It was summer. They were bald. It had OBP black paint I kept as nice as I could, which also looked bad. Looked like they washed it with a wire brush (where I could see the paint through the dirt).

Made my stomach turn a little. I took great care of it. Then I got over it, becuase I got more value out of the car for the effort. Just sad to see all that care go to waste.

Breaks down to roughly 21.5k miles per year. Not too bad.

When I bought my WRX back in 06, the 36k/3yr warranty I purchase had expired within about 18 months.

As of today, I put about 22k miles on the Forester I got at the end of March 2012.

I guess my reality is skewed.

Had a '89 supra with a "built" 7mgte. I should have never bought it, car was nothing more than a giant headache. 220kish miles on chassis and drivetrain, cut springs in the front, eBay special front mount, front end was damaged, rear bumper sprayed painted black, oil pressure was never more than 10-15psi after warmed up unless you ran 15w40 or up. 2 years later found it on Craigslist, looked just as bad as when I sold it only he was asking 3x more than what I sold it to him for.

I go on a lot of long distance trips and typically put about 1000-1500 miles on the car in one trip.

My daily commute is now about 10 miles each way.

Traded in my beloved oz rally so my wife could get an SUV with third row when we had our third child. I Took off all my mods and put them up on Craigslist.

Needless to say, the kid who bought my oz ended up buying all the parts I just took off it!

I saw my 2000 OBS a year or so after I got rid of it. It was very obviously mine as I took the rack and the decals off mine, and this particular car had the same aftermarket head unit in it too. I saw it when I was at work, parked with it's blinkers on, so I think the owner was some sort of pizza delivery person.

I found this car I traded in a year ago while browsing used WRXs in my area. It's not a premium dont know why they are saying it is. Also, it has a clean carfax with no accident history when it has been in a severe accident ($9000 in damage) which I filed a police report and went through insurance. They also seem to have replaced the bumper which I had modified to fit a FMIC with a base impreza/no lip bumper. I had a 20g on this car and made around 350whp and also beat the piss out of it. There were chunks in the transmission fluid when I traded it in. I'd feel really bad for whoever bought it.

I sold my wrx to a buddy. I can see it whenever I want which is nice because I miss the car. I actually helped him work on it about 3 weeks ago, pulled the entire wiring harness, interior, ecu. He's getting ready for an ej257 and an undecided large turbo set up. He also cleaned up the exterior a bit. Looking great for an almost 200k car.
