Angry Err..Dumb Mechanics at Farrish

I've been waiting for the clutch assembly to arrive so I can get my car fixed under warranty (cold shudder) and yesterday, I received a card with a bunch of part names/numbers on it saying they had received them.

I looked at the part numbers and they looked familiar.. I also had a copy of TSB for the clutch problem and guess what...

they ordered 2.5RS clutch assembly for my WRX.

ARGH!! The service guy doesn't know anything about the WRX, and he says "I believe the mechanics ordered the right part".

Does anyone know if it's possible to install RS clutch flywheel/cover/disc into WRX? I hope I don't get stuck with a bunch of wrong parts in my rex.

Good thing you caught that error. Keep that in mind if your clutch breaks after a few hundred miles.

Subaru would then probably try to void your warranty blaming, say, a custom stereo, or an exterior sticker caused the clutch failure.

I will research the part numbers in details to show them they aren't the right parts. I will be the living hell to them

Other than that, yeah, SOA can void warranty due to the extra stickers on the body:

SOA: Um sir, one of your stickers was a bit peeled off which caused extra drag, which then cause more heat, and engine load. We will have to void your warranty sir.

You cannot swap the clutch components between the RS and WRX. They work the opposite of each other. The RS release bearing pushes on the pressure plate, while the WRX release bearing pulls on the pressure plate.

Thanks for the info. If that's the case, when they try to install the parts, they will probably scratch their head and wonder why the parts wouldn't fit.

It's been a week and half since my parts were ordered. I guess they found out the mistake and ordered them again.

Why are they getting in touch with you when warranty parts for your car have been ordered and received? What does that have to do with you? You shouldn't have to be in that information loop.

They gave me a receipt when I got my car back the same day (cuz it takes time for them to order/get the parts), so I got my car back the same day. On that receipt, they have parts ordered with the part numbers.

Again, at the time of the post, I got a postcard with part numbers from the dealer, saying the parts were in so I can schedule a time to drop my car.

I just looked up those numbers to make sure they were getting the right thing, but apparently, they ordered/got wrong parts.
I just didn't want any wrong parts installed in my car that could cause further problems. or maybe was too paranoid because Farrish recently started selling subaru's and they aren't that experienced. I regret this the most. Should've gone to somewhere else when I got my car.

All in all, it will be fixed , which is good.

Eh, I wouldn't exactly blame the mechanics for that screw up as much as the parts guys... When I was a tech, I never actually looked up the parts I needed. I just walked back and said "I need this part for this model vehicle"... MOST of the time, they got it right, but people do make mistakes...
