Arrive about 15-20 minutes early. Give yourself time to chat with the receptionist and show interest in the company. Ask them questions; receptionists are usually great sources of the inner workings of the officeplace.
Wear at the least slacks and a button down shirt with a tie and belt. |

Do your balls still itch? If so, you might want to goldbond them before heading in.

Know the company. Be prepared to say a few things showing you've researched your potential future employer.

Get there 15-20 min early. I just went through all of this in the last couple of weeks. I've noticed that interviews have changed from what I was prepped for. The obvious questions like "why do you want to work for _______" and "what are your strenghts and weaknesses" really don't happen all that often. The interviews I went to basically consisted of a conversation between me and the interviewer.
Best advice...BE YOURSELF! Show some personality...everyone else out there is trying to act as professional as possible, let your personality show and you will stand out from the rest! EDIT: Even though typical questions aren't asked as much...still be prepared for them. Nothing's worse than not knowing how to answer a question about yourself! |

don't say the word "like" unless you're comparing 2 things. it's not a transition word, and they'll notice if you use it every 3rd sentence.

It's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed for the situation. If it's a professional job then a tie is required. If it's not a professional job you'll have to make a judgement call. If you know what people who work there typically wear just take it one step further. If they wear jeans and tee-shirts wear slacks and a polo shirt. If they wear polo shirts you wear an open collar dress shirt. If they wear open collar dress shirts you wear a tie.

Try to make a connection with the person interviewing you.
Example: When I interviewed with the IT Director here a year ago, I noticed he had a 1/16th die cast Ferrari F430 model on his bookshelf. So I made a point of bringing that up and it led into a friendly conversation about cars. He got to talk about his interest and experiences with cars and all was good. Try to find some common ground. Be a person, not a job applicant. |

Sorry to hijack youre thread, but Im currently seeking new employment. If your interviewer asks you how much youre currently getting paid inorder to determine your salary, what should you say to them?

Avoid answering the question and do some research so you know what you should expect, and so you can justify what you ask for.
