Insurance agents/gurus, need your help.
My car was hit by another car (I'm assuming) while it was parked in a parking lot back around Christmas time. The POS lowlife ****face that hit it didn't bother to leave their insurance info or anything. My insurance company is saying that it cannot be covered under comprehensive, but it must be covered under collision. I believe this to be bull****. Since I was not driving at the time, how can this be considered a collision? What makes matters worse in this case is that my deductible for collision is $500 while comprehensive is $250, and of course if I file a collision claim my rates are going to go up, right? This is ****ing ridiculous. Is she correct, or does she have her head up her ass like I'm hoping?
kthanx.

I'm an insurance agent here in Ohio.
You're screwed. A parking lot hit-and-run situation like that is considered a collision claim. You will need to pay your higher collision deductible. Why? Because there is no proof you were hit by another person. You could just have easily been the hitter instead of the hittie (is that a word?) and taken off from that same situation. Simple solution? Raise your comprehensive deductible to equal your collision deductible. I personally carry $1000 deductibles for both comp and collision. It saves serious money! parking lot hit-and-runs SUCK. I have been the victim of them in the past and I would love to find the people who do it and wack them over the head. Repeatedly. |

****, that's right. Your insurance company really isn't "on your side" afterall. I'm assuming that even if I had a witness it'd still be considered collision?

Comprehensive: A tree falls on your car or somebody steals your car.
Collision: Another automobile hits your car, or you hit something with your car. Most things that happen to your car are collisions, which makes collision insurance more expensive than comprehensive (unless you live in NJ), which is why you have the higher collision deductible in the first place. |

fliz is right. If you had a witness and could get some identifing stuff on the person who hit your car, your insurance company would go after them and get you your money back. They are on your side, they just need some info to go on!
Sucks that your trip to the grocery store cost you $500. You'll need to drop your car off and find some substitute transportation during the time your car is in the shop. Your insurance company should cover the cost of a rental car (as long as you purchased the coverage) and anything over the $500 deductible (if you decide to turn in a claim). |

I've talked to them and it looks like my rates shouldn't go up. If that's the case, then I don't have that much of a problem with it. The quoted damage is $731.96. I'll pay it out of pocket if they want to hike my rates.
It's already at the body shop since some old lady decided red lights are optional and hit the front left side of the car. Yeah, she couldn't manage to hit the side that was already dented. I figured I might as well get all of the work done at the same time. |

The only good thing about all of this is the fog light cover on that side had a rock chip in it, and now it's going to be replaced. Well, because she did a number on it: |
