Fuel pump won't start, blown fuse SBF 2, car won't start
My apologies if this is in the wrong forum. My car doesn't really seem to fit into any of the forums exclusively, so I figured I'd post in the forum with the most traffic.
My car is a 93 Impreza "L" with a Version 3 drivetrain. I sent the original 2.0l block to Subaru heaven, and put in a USDM STI shortblock. My car has been running without any electrical gremlins for years. Yesterday, while driving at slow speed, the car seemed to have lost power. I punched the clutch and watched the RPM's bounce around a little before I decided it was time to shut her off, and get her off the road. After a short inspection of the under hood fuse box, I noticed that the SBF2 fuse had blown. This hasn't happened before. When I have the key in the ingnition, everything still works. I've yet to find anything that isn't working yet. The only thing I DID notice was that I don't hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the ignition into the "ON" position. When I start the car, the engine cranks, but won't turn over. everything else works. Based on what I've read while searching this forum these are the things I need to check: Power to the ECU if none then; check continuity to main relay if good then; check that the main relay itself is switching. If none of the above then; Check fuse 16 in the car. I understand its inline with the fuel pump (in my car at least) Continuity to the FP relay Check that the FP relay itself is switching Check if the FP itself has continuity within, then proceed to check wiring to the pump Check the diode that's inline with the fuel pump relay. <- anyone have more on this? All I know is that its supposed to be below the in car fuse box and has a yellow wire and a light green /w black wire coming out of it. At some point, I'll check for spark. I just don't see the point in making it a priority if the FP isn't turning on. I know I should be checking for grounded wires, that aren't supposed to be grounded etc.. but I don't know my car well enough to do that with any confiendence. With any luck, it'll be something obvious. Anyone have any other suggestions before I tow it to the shop? It'd be much appreciated. Jason

I'd say it's fuel pump if you dont hear it prime. Your car exhibited all the right symptons for it to be that.

Does the fuel pump turn on without ECU assistance?
Update. I did some testing with a multimeter. Battery to fuse box - 12v-14v tested okay. Fuse box to Main relay - 12-14v tested okay. Main relay - tested ok (I hear the click when I remove B+) Fuse box to fuel pump relay - 12v-14v tested okay. Fuel pump relay - tested okay. I hear click as soon as B+ is applied. Power to ECU - NONE! Had the multimeter set to Voltmeter, and checked both pins 1 and 2 for power with ignition set to "ON".. nothing doing there at all. |

hate to bump this but i have a similar situation. I just got finished wiring up some Hella fogs and when I tried to start up the car.... nothing. No lights, so interior lights, no hazard lights, no HORN! Nothing. I tested the battery and it's fine. I removed the wiring for the Hellas and it still won't work. What's the problem?
