Question HELP!!! (Boost gauge install question)

OK, so I just installed my Autometer boost gauge and I have a big problem. First, it doesn't read vaccum at ALL and I can only get it to read 7-8 psi of boost at partial throttle. As soon as i put it to the floor, the gauge just flutters like crazy aroun 5-6 psi. I checked for leaks and there don't appear to be any. Also, I tapped the vacum line right off the BOV. Is there a better place to tap? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Hmm, i installed an autometer boost gauge 2 weeks ago and is working great so far...

However, at one point during the installation when i was running the hose from the BOV into the cabin, i accidently kinked the line. It put a permanant crease in the line that would kink again very easily if i attemped to bend the hose in any manner. I ended up splinting the hose at the kink with a piece of wire hangar to keep it straight at that point... I almost didn't notice the kink, and i would assume that it would hugely affect gauge readings.

BTW, i'm talking about a mechanical gauge. If that's what you have, double-check the entire length of hose to make sure it isn't kinked.

yep, its a mechanical gauge. you wouldn't have pics of your installation under the hood, would you? how did you hook up the plastic tubing to the T fitting?

I used a basic T fitting (Dimensions were 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4"), and then attached the hose using a 1/8" to 1/4" rubber connector.

No pics at the moment...

Any combanation of T fitting and connector would work, as long as the connector as a 1/8" hole for the hose, and the T fitting has 1/4" X 1/4" for the BOV hose. I.E. a 1/4" X 3/8" x 1/4" T would work with a 1/8" to 3/8" connector.

Actually now that i think about it, i was unable to find a 1/8" to 1/4" connector, and ended up using a 1/8" to 3/8" connector instead... since it was soft rubber i was still able to cram it onto the 1/4" end of the T with a little lube (dish soap.)

do NOT use the nylon hose included with the autometer gauge. Instead buy a 3/16" (5/32") rubber hose from a local auto shop and apropiate "T's" and couplers.

- For stock installations with no previous Gauge: Tap from the BOV (use a "T" 1/4in. to 3/16" i think) about 1 inch below the 1st. sharp bend (~90 degree) righ after the BOV. Run hose along fuel lines on the driver side. Go into the firewall into the cabin. Go up towards the gauge. Cut ~12inches of the nylon hose and install into the gauge as instructed. BECAREFUL not the bend the nylon, once that piece of ***** is bent u will need a new piece. Insert the other end into the rubber hose (about 1 inch inside) and use zip-ties to make sure there is no leaks.
The outer diameter of the autometer nylon hose and the rubber hose with inner diameter of 5/32" should mate just a bit snuggly. Secure with zip-ties just in case.
