New guy here!!!
wow!
hello im very new here and very new to the wrx community. currently i drive an integra gsr with mild head work and regular bolt ons. im looking into purchasing a wrx / imperza (not sure what is the difference). a friend of mine that has a Sti referred me to this site so i can learn more about the vehicle before i decide to upgrade anything on it. im not a stranger in the performance world, but all i know is honda stuff. ive notice that you guys buy from ebay stores suck as ssautochrome and buy some turbo xs products. in the honda world i know ssautochrome is a no no for there turbo kits, not sure on there intercoolers and i think turbo xs maybe up there as well. so i have a lot to learn about the subaru line up. i do have some questions hopefully they can get answered if not ill search: 1. which wrx comes with the moonroof? 2. where to purchase lip kits for the wrx? 3. why is that some of the front ends are different from others? meaning some regular wrx's have the Sti front end, why is that? ive heard of ppl swapping them out, but some of these are stock 4. on this, is there a trim line of the vehicles that has pictures of the vehicle? 5. any articles or how to's? from what it looks like this site may have a lot to offer. the site i currently browse is for my integra is team-integra.net . the admin there has the site setup real nicely for navigation. but anyways, i hope to get my wrx within the year and learn as much as i can before i pick up the vehicle. thank you

All I can say is that you have alot of reading to do. I am a Honda convert from way back (90 Accord, 97 Accord v6).
The entry level "Impreza" line represents the non-turbo class of vehicles. The Impreza WRX line represents the entry level of forced induction for the Subaru Impreza. The STI trim level is the pinacle of what is offered here in America. Do alot of searching and browsing on the site and many of your questions will be answered. Try the Unabomber FAQ's on this site for in depth answers and many how to's. That should get you started. You will get alot of "search noob" answers to what many feel are the same questions over and over, so lurk a bit and see what type of information is being thown around. You will come to find that there is a huge difference in performance between a front wheel drive vehicle and an all wheel drive platform. It can best be defined with driving experience behind the wheel so see if your friend will let you flog his car around a bit. A bit of advice... Hit the accelerator if the back end starts to come around and experience what it is like to power out of corners! E. Last edited by 4wdrift; 06-26-2006 at 10:18 PM. |

Welcome justYncredible, a lil warning on drving a WRX or an STI, It's like a hunk of meat, once you have had steak, that porkchop will never taste the same. Hey man! Welcome... I came from Hondas, too, most recently an '01 AV6 EX Sedan (SSM) and an '00 Civic Si (EBP). I still miss the Civic.

my goals with this vehicle (wrx turbo version, hehehe) is just to enjoy the car for what it is. yes ill be upgrading the IC to a FMIC because i plan on upgrading the turbo along with injectors, ecu (most likely getting it flashed, if subaru ecu support flash rom), uppipe, downpipe, exhaust, all nesscary gauges and valves. i will be reading the sites listed to get an idea of what to expect out of the vehicle. also is there a Helms guide for this vehicle? i hate taking my vehicle to a dealer if i can do it myself. ya i can change oil, springs, camber kit and what not... but thats on a honda. im really exciting in purchasing this vehicle because i need a different vehicle. i love my acura but i need another car, so i can park my integra. thus far, thank you for the warm welcome! |

^^^ He's pulling your leg. BOVs as an early mod are generally considered by most to be a no-no around here, yet it's one of the most frequently asked questions (earlier this month, the question was coming up at least once a day). That, turbo timers, MBCs, and CAIs definitely top the list.

I'm sort of in the same boat as justYncredible.
Looking at an 02 WRX right now with 50000KM (approx 31000 miles) and have been reading away on this forum for a few days now. I own an 88 supercharged MR2 but want to move to something still sporty but more practical for our lovely canadian winters. I've been trying to attain knowledge on what the WRX has so far, not aftermarket parts yet, but why is a turbo timer bad? I've always been taught/told to run a turbo car for a period before turning it off (say 30 secs). My previous 93 talon even had a "warning" sticker on the sunshade stating the same thing. Doesn't a turbo timer just let you leave your car so you dont have to sit there while it's cooling down? I'll go back to more reading now...... |

Well for starters the Impreza is the vehicle. The rest of it is just trim level. Here is a easy comparison.
Subaru - Honda Impreza - Integra 2.5RS - LS WRX - GS-R STi - Type-R There are more models that are not here in the US. Other things to know. Impreza 2.5RS is a 2.5 ltr N/A Impreza. This was later renamed to the Impreza 2.5i for the 2006 MY (Model Year). Impreza WRX is a 2.0 ltr Turbo trim from 2002 to 2005. In 2006 this was changed to a 2.5 ltr turbo. Impreza WRX STi is a 2.5 lts Turbo trim. This was later renamed to the Impreza WRX STI for the 2006 MY. The WRX came to the US in 2002. Prior to that we only had the 2.5RS models. The STi came to the US in 2004. The bodies changed 3 times already. 01 or before are generally called the GC models. 2002 & 2003 are known as the bugeye models. 2004 & 2005 are known as the peanut eye models. 2006 & 2007 are known as the pig nose models. There are many differences beyond body changes throughout the years that you need to research. Also the Sunroof/moonroof option only came with the limited or luxury option in the 2005 and up models. I think 2004 might have had that option as well. There was no option for leather at all until the 2006 MY. That's about it. Oh yah, one last thing to remember is that tEh SrT4 is TeH F4sTaR |

About the turbo Timer, its not that it is bad. its that it is useless for these cars. The turbos are designed to cool on their own if the car is running or not. So it will still cool the turbo slowly on its own as opposed to other older turbo cars.

Hey, welcome. I had a '95 GSR also, it was a great car. Here it is with the snow tires on... along with it's replacement...
About the Helm book... That's Honda's 'good' repair manual. For the Subie, it's an on-line subscription: http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/index.jsp I wish there was a book tho... |

impreza 1.5i swap
Hello.. Am looking to undertake a personal project i have been planning for quite some time now. Im looking to convert my 1.5i non-turbo 2006 Subaru impreza to a STI although i know it would be easier if it were WRX.
Kindly assist me on a detailed information on what Engine recommendation i should source for , gearbox, and various parts i may need.. Your Personal participation is much appreciated. Am not located in the US but i can import the parts and source whatever i can find locally. I got suspensions all sorted out, so my major concern is Engine, Gearbox, ECU (can source locally), rear differential, wire harness.. Participation will be much appreciated. Thanks. |

Welcome to the site and good luck finding a car. You have tons of research to do and if I were you I would first start on the Subaru.com website and look at the different models of the WRX to find the one that best suits you. The WRX is now almost considered its own car but really it is a perormance model of the impreza. After looking at the Subaru.com website and figuring out the difference in th models and which model you want come back to this site and read all the stickys at the top of each section, they are full of tons of great info and will answer most of if not all of your questions on the model of your choice and what can be done with it. Def pay close attention to unabombers manifesto as it will descibe all the performance stuff avalible and give recomendations as to what parts are good to use for what and even suggest some good manufactors for each part as far as modding goes. From there any other questions you have can usually be found by doing a quick search on the forums (sometimes the search function on the site doesnt work so great so if you go to google and search: site= nasioc "type here what ever it is your wanting to know", that is usually the best way to look for specific threads on this site). Anything you cant find searching ask away and someone will be able to help you out. Good luck with the new car purchase and make sure you let us know when you join the Subie community and post some pics of the new ride when you get it.
