All i am saying is i did the Subaru thing for all long time....i spent tons of money and still had a slow car.....that broke...and then broke agian.

Maybe i just had a bad experience.....but review this board enough and you will find that the ej25 even when built just does not last long.

The 4g63 even in stock form is a monster and just keeps on running no matter what you throw at it.

i agree the the 4g63 is a monster of a platform and has been proven for years and years.. my built ej25 never lasts me that long then again i throw alot more at her then a normal suby enthusiast would.. all and all i can honestly say i love my suby and always will but she just isnt designed to be drag raced like an abused like an evo.. its rare to see a suby motor making big numbers 500+whp last more then a couple thousand miles.. i miss my stage 2 suby to be honest.. just my 2cents i work at turbotrix and i watch evos all day get the crap beat out of them and they just take it granted they do break sometimes but subys just seem to be much more fragile..

I've been considering getting an EVO also. I'm always wondering if it is just a case of "the grass is always greener" but I have a feeling they really are just that easy to make fast as hell...

they are a lot easier to make power on. 380whp on an evo with the stock turbo on pump is very attainable, but next to impossible on an EJ25, even with a 16g, which is what im told is the equivalent of what the evo comes with stock.

I just know that if i could of done it all over.....i would have got a Evo first.

I have a HTA green on mine and it is a absolute blast to drive, and furthermore i do not have a worry in the world that the motor is going to let go.

In my Subaru i would stare at all my clusters holding my breath each time i would do a 4th gear pull.....

I loved my Subaru for the sound......and thats about it.

LOL...

All I can say is that since you now have this evo, your sti will be up for sale soon.

I grew up on DSMs back in the day. Liked them plenty. Made a ton of power, but one bad engine builder ruined it all for me.

Parted it out and bought a 2 door subaru instead. I don't regret the move.

BUT...Eventhough I don't own a DSM anymore, I still go to a DSM/Evo shop up here in Rochester for all my parts needs and custom fabrication work. They laughed at me when I made 423whp on 93 pump gas on their mustang dyno. Such little power they said...I'll show them. lol

It is incredably easy to make a ton of power on an evo. Anyone that says otherwise is just dumb. The stock 4G63 (stock bottom end, stock HG, stock head) can make over 550whp on their mustang dyno. Now that is insanity for a stock block even if it is a cast block.

Most people that make the switch from subaru to Evo rarely look back. There are exceptions ex:Big Al and a few others.
It's sad, but usually the truth.

^^^^^

I can tell you that i will never own another turbo subaru. I can see myself buying a NA Outback or Legacy in the future as a family car....DD.

I feel sorry for all the members that drop thousands and thousands of dollars for each of their builds that only last months......and then they have to do it all over agian.

Anyone that wants to go fast and not have to tear down their engine every other month needs to switch to a EVO.

I have had mine for over a year now.....and i beat the crap out of it.....and it just keeps smiling at me.

Enough about the EVO.........mod your subaru's people.....then start saving.

yeah ill never get rid of my SUBY its my true love at heart lol.. but after working with and around shops that deal with DSMs all the time you kinda start to drift into the wanting one.. now lord knows i was prob the biggest EVO hater of all mainly because my ex gfs are skanks and always some how wound up with some douchebag with an EVO.. not a reason to hate them but deff the reason why i built a monster subaru to just have that peace of mind knowing that ill prob never run into a privately owned evo on the street that will touch my STi. that being said after being in many cars making 500+ subys and evos 450whp in a suby feels like 500WHP in an evo the power bands are so much different the torque curves so different..

Most of you see the "internet" side of things, not the actual side.
I could buy and evo and go fast, If I actually ever want to go really fast in an import I will just mod my supra.. but .. I rather do it in my XT and RS .. People are just starting to understand the EJs and how to get them to work and last. Remember the 4g has been around for 20yrs now.. The ej255/7s for about 6yrs. You look back through here and you see more 9sec subarus, and more 10sec subarus with less and less work... **** last yr I tuned 4 STi's into the 10s with just pumpgas.. We are getting there.. I myself will stick to my "unreliable" Subie!!

+1 on that with the right parts and the right decisions suby's can be fast and reliable. If you notice a lot of the built motors blow up due to not monitering everything or just straight out abusing the schitt out of it or wanting more power than what the cheap parts they bought can handle.

I would almost agree cause my 5MT broke @52,000 miles but then I did a 207 JDM6MT and it was all Golden from there

Freakin 8500rpm launches 12.5's on Pump 93. Now at 90 some odd thousand miles the engine is making ugly sounds. I abused this engine like there was no tomorrow and it will still get me around but now I gotta see how it looks inside. Mind you this is after 50k of absolute abuse so I have no problems with Subaru's

well said JR. I have been saying this to everyone lately. Back even a few years ago. 35r STI went 11's and maybe a high 10 on race gas and everyone was wondering WTF the problem was... Now that we are going faster with less. It seems like there is no reason to get an EVO over a STI.

i have subaru stars in my heart but def want an evo as well. that is of course before i get my porsche gt3 rs.

baby steps as mikey would say.

i am having some issues with my car right now and am actually enjoying trouble shooting it, along with nasioc, in my quest for a 500whp/500tq subaru.

its been a really fun project. i have made alot of friends along the way, and goddammit this car better last more than a couple thousand miles, i'm already at 1000!!!

truth is you gotta have money for any hobbie and race cars require big coins. i am definitely a blue collar guy with a family , but i do keep an integra beater for any unforescene failures. (i hate driving that turd!)

visit my thread if you can offer some technical insight!

I've seen plenty of popped evos...even built ones. It happens. Also no, their blocks aren't indestructible. Those cylinders do crack at a certain point but it is way up there

Congrats on your motor........your in the minority.

If you have the opportunity to work at a Performance shop or have some type of affiliation with one......it makes it a whole lot easier to build another motor on the spot when your's blows.

For the normal people out there it is very frustrating when you spend 5-7k on something that should hold up......and it doesn't.

I enjoyed my Subaru while i had it.....but there was always something going on with it.....and i didnt have the resources to keep on throwing money at a never ending problem. What i really need to do is figure out how the NJ boys make their money. It seems like everyone in NJ is super rich....or their parents.

But on a serious note.......i give props to people like Junior and others that stick with the EJ25 so one day it will out last its competitors.

i think if i knew why it failed and understood it, it would lessen the pain. you engine blew up because you ripped the oil pan off over crest...

WINNN!

Who says only mom and dad get to ride in a comfy seat??

Seriously tho, EVO's have their fair share of issues too, no question. How about that transfer case or the glass MR 6spd? Either way, both cars are terribly expensive to maintain, much less with 500+hp.. The more I look at it tho, might just pick myself up a lightly used IX

I'm just gonna chime in on the NJ statement.. we just get better jobs than most. There's a ridiculous amount of "corporate wealth" floating around along with people that create businesses to support the wants/needs of people that have that wealth. It's not like blue collar workers with families don't exist, but chances are those guys aren't modding cars because they're too busy paying taxes or their mortgage cuz this state is so damn expensive lol.
