maybe itīs just me, but this year is as boring as the last years, Team Sky dominates the field, and the doper will win. The "rivals" are weak as always.

Get over it guise.
You're starting to sound like some neophyte fair weather fans. I'd watch if it showed them shooting up before the starts. As long as everyone got the same dose. It's been going on as long as the tour has been running. The only thing now is the riders are tested and kept track of on a daily basis in and out of the season. The riders, even in the offseason have to communicate to the UCI(?) where they physically are every day between the hours of 6 and 9pm. For the record this is summarized from what I heard on the tele so don't take everything as fact. My guess is PR wise Sky is putting their marbles in GT's court. Let Froome do some support which would look good for him to take a back seat. Can Thomas time trial? The final competitive stage is a hilly TT. |

Tour de France: Le thread
Thomas said he is riding for Froome literally minutes after winning the stage today. There is no way Froome doesnt win this tour short of a major accident or getting terribly sick.

The only bummer is that they pull all the races from the previous season at the start of the Tour de France, so even the 2018 Tour of California gets pulled from the archive at the start of the 2018 TdF. I personally like watching the cyclocross races while I'm doing indoor trainer rides.

Chris Froome was punched and spat at as the latest stage of the Tour de France turned ugly. Fellow Brit Geraint Thomas retained the Yellow Jersey with his second consecutive victory, but Froome made the headlines for reason he'd rather not on a day marred by multiple ugly clashes with unruly fans which ultimately resulted in former champion Vincenzo Nibali suffering a broken vertebrae. Froome's incident could also have ended much worse than it did, The Sun reports. "He was racing around the Alpe d'Huez circuit in the peloton one bystander rushed forward and appeared to aim a punch at him. There were also reports he was spat at during the day's racing, and one fan even mooned him. Thomas won a thrilling mountain stage of the Tour de France to strengthen his grip on the Yellow Jersey. |

Jensie to the sprinters that got dropped. Man-up! You know what the stages are like before you started. If you want the glory you have to train to make it to the finish.
It's really tough for any one person or team at this point to beat Team Sky. When you dedicate your outcome to winning the GC you man your team with all rounders and climbers. No sprinters and sprinter support riders taking up space. 6 to 7 guy in pace line from one team heading into the last climb has to be demoralizing for the competition. Every year we see drunk ass fans acting like drunk ass holes. The sucky part of this event. Is Froome conserving or just a bit tired from the Giro? Go Simon! Looking at the speeds these guy are going they must have a lot of trust in the roads and motos clearing the way. It looks a bit scary at times. |

I completely missed that the news that Sagan announced his divorce mid-tour. I guess that's a good time to hide it because of all the other cycling news going on.

This has been one of the most brutal weeks of the event I've seen in a long time, maybe ever. I think the ASO may have gone a little overboard this year but damn has it made for good TV. I still can't believe that Nibali made that run at the end yesterday with a broken back. Paris is going to be kind of disappointing with so many sprinters heading home after being slayed by the Alps. |

Bahrain-Merida is considering legal action against ASO and UCI over security issues that they felt led to Nibali's crash on Thursday.

Interesting morning already:
NBCSN opened their coverage this morning to an absolutely bonkers scene. Protesting farmers, attempting to disrupt the race, threw bales of hay into the road as the peloton approached but that wasn't the biggest problem. Local police sprayed the protesters with pepper spray to get them to disperse... As riders were passing the scene. Several riders had seek medical attention after riding through the scene. Since no breakaway had formed, officials decided to scratch the progress and have a new neutral start. |

How does this year's tour compare to when Dope Armstrong was racing? Are they finishing at slower (er....longer) times?

I saw that Thomas crash a couple of times before I just saw the live footage. I assumed he just overcooked the corner but the motorbike in for the of him took a **** line into that turn and he followed it.
Looked like neither was expecting that turn to be as tight as it was. Thank jebus there wasn't too big a drop on the other side, that could've gone horribly wrong. |

For example: there were 5 mountain stages in '05. There were 7 in '15. Not sure the difference in elevation between the two tours, but it would certainly effect the average speed. |

Bikes are faster, riders are faster because of better training methods...Sagan on his Venge would probably absolutely crush the legends of cycling. |

Yep, it's like comparing the lap times of a 1999 360 on one track and a 2015 458 on another track of similar length.
There are too many factors going on to judge |
