I bought my tire wheel combo on Craigslist from an older Subaru model so no tpms.
On my Jeep they auto pick up the correct sensors after some miles. I bought the cheapest ones online cause I didn’t want them but was required to by the tire installer.

None. I'm not aware of any new law. Does it apply if you take the wheels off the car yourself? |

Not sure if it’s a state by state thing but if you buy new tires then the tire stores are required to put tpms sensor in if the car came with them from the factory.
So if you have another set of rims for winter they won’t mount tires unless you have or buy sensors for them. It’s really lame tbh |

Not new, 2007 law enacted in 2008 I believe. legally required to have tpms on all vehicles under 10k lbs IIRC. So if your vehicle has them a shop cannot disable the system, ie mount tires w/o sensors if they are installing them on the vehicle too. I could get around it I suppose as I will be the one actually installing them, but when i had the screw in the sidewall this spring on my winters i just barely noticed it as i walked by, if I hadn’t walked by the pax side I wouldn’t have known until it was too late. Normally i check all my tires every Sunday, so minor pressure differences i catch and correct weekly, but that situation above i was out of town and the idiot light would-have alerted me. Like when my wife somehow ran over a 16 penny nail, the idiot light let her know so she could tell me about it. Either way i have the tools, and it is adding 139.00 to the cost for essentially OEM sensors. Is it truly worth it? Entirely debatable. I am getting different tires now, more due to availability than cost, but they are slightly less expensive too. Nokian Nordman 7’s, or if you like, a rebadged Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 instead of the newest Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9’s. I think studs are overkill for most of my driving anyway Last edited by flyboy1100; 11-20-2018 at 12:29 AM. |

Funny enough, the TPMS in ours could be a lot better IMO.
A couple years ago after ruining my winter tires, I ran over a nail on my all seasons and the light didn’t come on before it was too late. Bad luck, I guess, but I had a set with and without TPMS and lost both. |

still waiting on wheels to get coated, i picked a color they are supposed to stock, and for some reason they are out and their resupply shipment is over a week late. at this rate I might as well just do a custom color......my Nokian Nordman 7's should be in on friday, just won't have wheels to mount them on |

That’s the only issue I have with tpms.
If it’s just a light then it can be too late by the time it comes on. The read outs are way better you can tell if you just lose a few psi rather than having to wait till you are -10psi for the light to come on. |

Cool color. I debated whether or not to try to powder coat my old 2004 WRX wheels, but decided to sell them for cheap and get a new set. They were too corroded and had seen better days

It’s amazing how clean and rough the sandblasting was. Mine weren’t corroded but after 45grit blasting they were way too rough for paint like i planned. 1-2 coats of color and 1 coat of clear and they are so smooth i am honestly surprised |

What size tire and rim? Looks like there is a lot of space between the tire and the wheel well, might just be the lighting though.

16” rim, 215/55r16 tires. Overall diameter is 25.3” i have 3/4” spacers on top of my struts too After running only oversized tires for the last 3 years it is weird having my speedometer actually match my speed......odometer is still off by 2.7% but that is better than 7.2%...... |

I did it guys. After more than a 2 years of staring longingly at STI pink springs for the Impreza, I pulled the trigger. At 370$ shipped, this will be a somewhat expensive experiment, which will undoubtedly get me under the car and wrenching more. I've watched countless videos on how to replace springs and struts. But I am still somewhat nervous, since it will be my first time in there. Do any of you have and words of wisdom to share? I've wanted pink springs to tighten up the handling. The 15mm drop will also be a nice aesthetic bonus. I plan on doing this on stock struts I've had for 30k, no winters here in SoCal. I hope the are still good after I mess with them.
Anyway... Early Christmas present for myself. |
