Default Why do I feel like the only person in America without a cell phone?

Everywhere I look, people on the phone. At work, ringing all day long. At the video store asking what tape to get. On the road, that jerk almost rammed me.

What did we do before this miraculous technology came into our lives?

make a lot of second trips to the store because we forgot something on the grocery list... have to sit around the house when on-call... pay enormous hotel room phone bills when on the road... have to be tied to a home phone instead of going all cell with the 99 dollar a month unlimited minutes, unlimited long distance, unlimited roaming in north america plan... wait... I have more... but I have to take this call.

I have a cell phone, but no one ever calls me, because I don't have any friends. But it's my "safety net", so I continue to be a sucker and throw $30 away every month.

I felt like that forever, then I got one because of work. Now that I am one of the "Borg" I really really wish I could get rid of this f***ing thing. It's a goddamn curse, anyone can call at anytime, and I HAVE TO ANSWER!@!$@#$%!#$ It is however useful for trying to coordinate with multiple people on the fly.

I was one of the first people to own a digital cell phone. Got it really cheap when they were first introduced in our market(about 2 months after a few other test markets in the U.S. got it). Had it for years, then turned it off last October. Been without it since.

And loving it.

Possible new job has indicated they would like me to get one. I told them they'd have to purchase it for me, and they'll need to specify what times I'm on call, as I do not intend to keep it with me(not just off, but even with me) when I don't need it.

I will no longer be tied to one. Sure, sometimes my friends say "we were gonna call you, but didn't want to wake anyone else at your place" or "we left a message for you at home, but you were out" and I miss things. It's OK. My life's a lot less complicated. I don't talk on the phone nearly as much. Discussions take place in person. I like it.

I don't have my own but I have one for work. That is for 27 more days, then they escort me out the door and I'll be free again!
Oh wait, that means I'll have no job, either. Just can't win

I don't have one. I figure last thing I need is another monthly bill so that I can be bothered at any moment of the day. If I have to do a little more driving as a result, good! I like driving. It's therapeutic.

I miss my phone. The only thing I don't miss is my stupid friends calling me on the phone when I can SEE them! Don't waste my minutes when I'm sitting inside eating and you want to stand outside and smoke.

The worst thing I've ever seen was when I went to visit a friend who was working on his car, and was talking to someone with the phone DUCT-TAPED to his head! His excuse: "I lost my headset....what??"

I refuse to own a cell phone. I don't want to be accessible to people whenever and wherever I go.
When I play basketball with my friends, we constantly have to stop so they can answer their cell phones every 20 min. I tell them to turn their phones off for a just a few hours, but they can't do it. I think it's pretty damn rude of them.

I don't talk to my friends, family or my job constantly, and I'm still a fully functioning member of society. If people need to contact me and I'm not home, that's what an answering machine is for.

And I don't feel the need to talk to people on a phone while I'm driving, in the grocery store, in the bank, at school etc. The rest of the world sees no problem with that however.
