Default faulty coolant temp sensor?

Hey guys,

Ive got an 05 wrx. Just recently the weather warmed up and noticed my temp gauge going up when im idling. The fans werent kicking on. Once I started moving again temp went back to normal. Since this happened the car randomly will idle rough and ill get a flashing cel.

Any thoughts?

well if the fans aren't turning on there's something wrong somewhere... Check the fuses and the wiring/plugs on the fans. I've seen some cars that actually melted the fan plugs and made it impossible for them to turn on.

If you suspect a faulty coolant temp sensor, datalog the car and observe the the engine coolant temp parameter. If it goes up and functions normally, this is not your problem. You could have toasted a headgasket hence its running rough of it could be some of the ECT comps are affecting things in the ROM...
