Subaru Engine block heater
I have an MY00 2.5RS and I ordered the Subaru engine block heater from my dealer. I was wondering if anybody has this and could tell me how to hook it up to the engine? I looked under the hood and couldn't see anything apparent that I would hook it up to. I also looked in the car manual, and it didn't have anything to say.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Tom Richardson, Jr.

The block heater will fit into one of the frost plug holes, little circle plates. Inorder to put the block heater in you will have to knock out the frost plugs and remove them. Oh besure that the coolant is drained and not too hot. Then put the block heater. I suggest that if you do not really need it, don't put it in. This is because they always leak in the future when they rust out.
PS I suggest you let a mechanic install it if it sounds to complicated. |

OK, thanks. I think I'll be able to figure it out now.
Oh, I need it. Today when I went out to start my car it was 15 degrees F. I live in Hailey, Idaho. It gets pretty darn cold here in the winter. Thanks! Tom Richardson, Jr. |

There is an engine coolant plug on the drivers side bottom or the engine. You'll need a 14mm allen wrench to get it out. It's not a freeze out plug but something that needs to be unscrewed. Obviously you'll have to drain the coolant first. That plug is in there really tight. I tried using a 14mm bolt with 2 nuts jammed together but I still couldn't get the bugger out. The nuts kept moving. If you want to see the exactly what the plug looks like go here: http://www.azscooby.com
and look at the OEM oil cooler mod. I had to remove the same plug but on the oppisite side. Peaty [This message has been edited by Peaty (edited November 10, 2000).] |
