![]() I contacted a couple people on this thread about the size bolts used and materials. A lot of this project is trail and error. I spent an hour at ACE trying to find the right washers and nuts. Here is what I came up with.
Tip/Advice : The best place I found for all the bolts and washers needed was ACE Hardware. Home depot...dont waste your time at HD. ACE has everything you will need. I had already tried doing something with my stock tow hook. I had painted it pink. BTW, Krylon makes a color called Watermelon, which looks alot like the cherry blossom red that Grimmspeed sells. Anyways, the tow hook I did purchase at Home Depot. When I purchased the tow hook, that was when I foud out Home Depot sucks for nuts and bolts. The tow hook is rated for 3,000 lbs. ![]() I used Regal Red for the color of my tow hook. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used 6 washer for the inside of the tow hook. The diameter of the inside circle and the bolt that goes in the washers is 12mm. (Not the threads on the tow hook. Got it?) The washers are 7/16 washers. ![]() If you want to use a bolt instead of the rod that comes with the tow hook, the bolt is M6 x 1.0 x 20mm and the nut is m6x1.0 ![]() |

![]() I didnt get the size of the washers I put to hold in the washers inside the tow hook. Same inside diameter, but the flat washers are bigger so to push up on the tow hook and hold the washers in securely. But since you will be at ACE, you can try a few flat washers out and make sure the fitment is right for your needs.
![]() I didnt get a pic of the tow hook when I first put it together. I was so excited to have finally completed it. But here are some pics when I put it on after I drilled the tow hook cover and plasti dipped the tow hook matte back. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tip/Advice: I drilled through the tow hook cover. TO be honest, I kind of messed it up. I tried using a cardboard mock up of the hole where the cover goes and eye balling where the tow hook would go. You are going to need a HUGE uni-bit. If I remember correctly, the diameter of the threads on the actual tow hook was 19mm. I used a rubber gromit to hide the error and it looks much nicer and professional looking. So make sure you have the right tools or just dont drill into the cover. If the Styrofoam in the bumper shows, spray paint it black. Almost done! ![]() ![]() Taped it off again and plasti dipped what had got rubbed off or needed to be touched up. ![]() All done! ![]() |

![]() Thanks for the writeup - trying to sort a better solution for my occasionally tracked wagon and I'm fond of. I'd prefer a strap but this may work without re-engineering the wheel.
