![]() Hey Guys have a few questions about swapping!
I have a 1998 forester and want to swap a wrx engine into it But just have a few questions! First off I have around $3500 to do the swap. And my uncle has his own shop with lifts and everything I would need to do it. It's not my daily driver so I'm not worried about it being out for a while. What are some of the biggest problems when people do a swap into a forester. Also what are some websites for rebuild or used engines? What years of the wrx engines are the a good fit? 2002? Also can I use my 5 speed transmission? And how much will it cost? Thanks a bunch and sorry I'm a newbie

![]() Wrong section. You're going to need to swap a wiring harness and ECU over with the WRX engine.
You can find used engines here in the for sale section. Your 5 speed should work fine on a wrx engine if I am not mistaken. I think your bell housing only has 4 bolt holes and the wrx engine has 6 IIRC. Might want to check yourself though. |

![]() the holes on the bellhousing arnt really a issue.
OP: I have a buddy in the same shoes and with the same budget. 100% get a totaled 02-07 WRX and swap what you want over and sell everythin else. You can find them on Coparts.com all day for under that price. |

![]() save yourself the trouble and have the wiring harness merged by iwire. That way all your old wiring will be plug and play along with the new wrx engine. and youll have working windows and dash with a 02 wrx motor.
TRUST me i get clowns coming into the shop all day with problems of swapped dashes and such. |

![]() I just looked into this for my project and you want to get an engine from 99-04 wrx. You'll need the complete engine, wiring harness from the car (unless you send yours to Iwire to merge, recommend this option cost is 850***128556
