Default APS FMIC, bugeye WRX and the front tow hook....they don't work together.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, so I thought I would throw it up for people considering an FMIC...i did a lot of reading and never saw this mentioned.

If you have a bugeye WRX, and get an APS FMIC, the fmic blocks the access hole that the front tow hook screws into....i found this out the hard way.

if you mod your car, eventually you may need a tow truck....and if you're lowered, and the truck driver doens't have a 2x4 or two for you to drive on as you get pulled onto the flat bed the angle of incline will probably damage the bumper cover if the hooking point is under the car....

i guess a plus side is if you have an FMIC you can remove the tow hook...great weight reduction mod...

That happends on all the WRX's (w/ a full size FMIC) not just the 02-03. I have the D/R 500 on mine my self. I would like to still have it , but you can't unless you modify the end tank. Look on the bright side, you still have the tow hook in the back. Just have it hooked up to there if need be.

I realized it when I installed my DR500, but there's nothing that you can really do about it. Look at it this way. . .you just spent upwards of $1400 for a FMIC. . .do you think a tow hook is going to stop you from installing it?

i noticed this as well too a while back when a hose popped off and the car died in a major intersection. Luckily, the when the flat bed truck came along (and cusred, since my car is lowered bigtime on coilovers), and has the SOA lip and skirt package too, I was able to obtain a few planks of wood roll the car on to raise the car up a bit. The car actually has a couple of towing attachment points underneath the car which they hooked up to. the chains did touch the front SOA front lip on the car, but you cant see where unless you raise the car up. Never really paid much in the way of attention to that tow hook in front of the car. When the car is getting towed, they have to put it on a flat bed anyway, and to get it on a flatbed, they need to hook their chains up underneath the car to pull it up...

THe only time I would think you need that stock tow hook in the front if if you were getting pulled by another car, but I don't worry about that, since I have CAA (or AAA to you guys in the US), so all I have to do is to call and tell them where I am, and what kind of truck I need for the tow.

Along those lines (although I do know about the one in the front), what's to stop anybody from hooking up the the rear toe loop? I've been pulled out of deep grass/mud using that method, not onto a flat bed, though. It should work and would be easier to avoid front lip damage.

just get a friendly push, no but seriously, i have an APS FMIC and never noticed, but I never had the tow hook thing that came with the car new anyway

and actually i got towed and i'm lowered, he never needed the tow hook, he had these cool long stands that he placed under the car and stood on, then it jacked one side of the car up at a time, then he was able to hook the cable up and drag it up the flatbed
