Looking to go to "stage 2"
Ok to begin with I have a few questions. I have been in contact with a guy that is selling a turbo xs TBE. He wants to sell it to me for $800 dollars flat. The exhaust is new. Is that too much for it?
Also I know that you have to get EM if you plan to do any mods to our cars. Otherwise it would be pointless. Currently my STi is stock. If I do get the TBE and flash the ECU to a cobb "stage 2" map. How much of an increase in power would I be looking at? This would probably be the only mod I would do for a while besides some headers. Thanks for taking your time to read this. Again thanks

Stage 2 STI will be a very good increase in power. There are dyno charts on Cobb's website, but average is probably going to be +50 hp and +50 lb/ft tq. Headers aren't necessary on a stage 2 STI, by the way. Save that money and do suspension work or something else.
$800 is probably about right. Maybe a little high. |

Cobb OTS tunes vary, but you should get around 290-300 at the wheels. stage 2 is a good place to start. |

new? 800 doesn't sound high to me. With the exception of the stealthback models they go for 900+.
swpsti make sure you want it loud if thats the exhaust your getting. |

sounds reasonable.. I wouldn't get a aftermarket header, just get your stocker ported and polished with coating or wrap it.
goto the porting and coating section.. http://www.grimmspeed.com/store/index.php |

that depends some on which model it is, however the TXS downpipe is 4"-3" and is pretty thinwalled. If its the model with the "can" style muffler it is going to be more than moderately loud for sure, the RFL (can style) is def. one of the louder exhausts out there.

TXS has two mufflers - a standard (magnaflow) muffler which is decently loud, or the RFL (really f****n loud)

oh hell I think the on that he is selling me is the RFL. He did mention something about it but I didn't know what it meant. So the back to power gains, the increases in power will be noticeable.
teesutt mentioned 290-300 to the wheels....don't 07 STi's come with 293 out the factory? |

you will def. see big power gains @ stage 2. No worries there. It really depends on the dyno but most stock sti's dyno 240-250whp hence expect 290-300whp with stage 2.
Assuming you can drive well your basically going from a car that can reasonably do a 13.0 stock to the 12.5-12.7 range depending on driver/tune. Its a very nice increase in power for how little work and money. Bottom line is that it is worth the money and you'll need both the AP and the TBE to do further mods down the road if you choose anyway. |

you will be fine, the OTS stage 2 maps from Cobb are pretty good. Getting protuned is optional but worth your money if you get the opportunity or feel like more power with better boost response.

I have the magnaflow TXS TBE and i really like it. It sounds good, looks good with the car and isn't too loud. I think $800 is fair but i might try to get that down to $750. Not that $800 is a bad price, just that you're really doing him a favor by buying this exhaust off him. |

i believe there have been a few hit below 13 stock in the 07s. The gearing and ecu revamp and larger wastegate do wonders.
Yea its not easy and you'd prolly need to pull off an incredible 60' but its possible. |

You mods should go EM Fitst like the Cobb AP than the TBE from TXS. The 07's are just too touchy!!

But if I can't find one then a new one is in order. 13's stock ?...lol that the day I run that will be when pigs fly or just when I get better at launching the car I ran a 14.1 last weekend at the track. thank you all for your input you are really helping me on this one.

if you don't have the money for an ap, you could always look at enginuity. ask in your regional forum for anybody with experience in open source tuning.

you can trying slipping it from 4K or so, you actually don't HAVE to rape the car to get decent times.
My first run ever at the track I did a fast street start with just slipping the clutch a little from around 4K and managed a [email protected] with the td04. You'll get it down, it'll actually be easier to launch @ stage 2 because boost will come on easier so you'll be less likely to bog. |

I don't I'm very careful with my car. I just want to get a little more power out of it. Because I know it can do ALOT better than what it does right now. AP is pricey I can purchase a new if need be. but I just wanted to get the facts straight as far as the so called "stages" that cobb has.

well I just ordered an AP and an Invidia full turbo back exhaust from. Import Image. My STi is already at Stage 1 and as soon as I get the TBE I will do a stage two map on it. now would it be safe to get a protune after I switch maps to stage two?

I've been running AP stage 1 for over two years now and I'm very pleased with it. IMHO (and I'm an EM noob) from the reading I've done on NASIOC it seems to me that the Cobb maps are very conservative and consequently safe. I personally noticed a BIG difference in the driveability of my car after flashing to stage 1 (I drove it stock for 6 months before flashing it). Not just HP and torque but it spread the torque over a much wider (flatter) power band, which made the car much more driveable than stock.
So I would suggest driving the car for a while with the Cobb stage II map and see how you like it. If I understand correctly from my research, a protune will gain you more HP/torque. The Cobb maps leave a lot of HP/torque on the table in the interest of reliability. So it's up to you whether you want to press the edge of the envelope or be satisfied with a reliable OTS (Off The Shelf) tune... |

well thats exactly what I've been hearing from various people around here. Im not sure though if I want to spend the money to get protuned. But if I must I will.
