Default When are you too old for CF?

I accidentally hit a dog while driving past our local park and it jacked up my hood (this is why you keep your dog on a leash) in all seriousness I felt like crap for hitting some poor dog with a ****ty owner. Anyways, I don't think the hood is salvageable so I am going to have to get a new one and I don't particularly want a factory hood but all I can find is carbon-fiber stuff and it doesn't seem logical to paint it. So how old is too old for carbon fiber or is there a fiberglass hood that looks like the GT concept hood from Carbon Creations? I am 26 and I have a 2011 Red WRX Hatch.

27 is too old. So take it off promptly on your upcoming birthday.

LOL! Man people buy carbon fiber for different purposes, if you really dont care about the weight savings or the aesthetics, stay stock.
Carbon fiber doesn't go away with an age, it goes away when it loses purpose. You think BMW cares about the age cutoff when they make the roofs of their cars out of carbon fiber. Thats like saying anyone over 25 with a new M3 looks silly because they have a carbon fiber roof.

This is useless, don't listen to him.
In all honesty, it is your car. If all you can afford is a carbon fiber hood (which is sometimes cheaper than a new painted hood believe it or not) than go for it. If it really bothers you that much, spend some more to get it painted and call it a day.

I'm pretty sure he was joking.

the package my hood came in, had an age requirement and maximum limit. sorta like the 'for ages 3-6' on board games and stuff. well sadly, he's barely making the cut off at 26 so on his birthday, it should be removed. your right

We have an age limit for carbon fiber now? There goes my wedding ring in a year.

I get the OP. If you are not tracking your car, decking it out in carbon fiber can look ridiculous. Like the 70 year old man in a convertible with 3 large gold chains around his neck and his comb-over blowing back like a horses mane. There is a time to give it up – you are getting old. But, 27 ain’t old. I think you are GTG on a carbon fiber hood until 30-35. If you track it, you are never too old.

Any age over 21 is too old for the carbon fiber raceboy look, especially if your car is a daily driver...

...unless you like picking up teenage boys.

I'd go with the OEM hood. Many of the CF hoods out there have poor fitment or poor construction with little to no weight savings over the OEM aluminum (assuming your vehicle has an aluminum hood standard). I also think that unpainted carbon body parts is a hard look to pull off. Resale value will be better with the stock unit.

The real question is do you have a career or a job. Most people don't view carbon fiber as "professional" when you drive somewhere for business.

Bernard Charles "Bernie" Ecclestone (born 28 October 1930) as president and Chief executive officer of Formula One Group...

Not even this guys too old for Carbon Fiber.

Also here is an carbon fiber toilet for the older senile years.

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/11/c...ieve-the-hype/
So you can dump fiber in your carbon fiber.

Ah alcohol....

No age limit on real CF that offers benefits.

Fake CF for looks - well you know the answer.

It's light weight, however, CF will often require hood pins for safety on the hood. I'd recommend an aluminum over CF. If you go with the CF, I'd paint it, makes your car look less boy racer.

Beyond ALMS and Grand Am cars, who has real CF hoods with no fiberglas?

Pretty tough to beat the OEM aluminum ones for weight. When I built a hood for my racecar years ago, I went with aluminum. Final weight (put on a scale, not just estimated) was 5 pounds exactly.

I'm pretty sure the OEM hoods for USDM '11+ WRX's are not aluminum. The Canadian brochure claimed that the current MY has it, but turns out that was a misprint.

Nothing wrong with carbon fiber at all, so get a carbon fiber hood and paint it to match your car.

Get it painted to match the color of your car and with Aerocatch hood lock, you'll be good.

This is crazy. There is no limit in regards to age if it's done right. I had a CF hood on my Evo that was paint-matched along the outside parts closest to the fenders and I left the CF exposed on the inside portion of the hood near the vents. It looked completely tasteful regardless of your age. Do what makes you happy. Just make sure you are buying a good quality, nice fitting piece.

If you are over the age of 12, you are too old for CF accents.
