My First Subaru
Hey all, about a month ago I traded in my 09 Cobalt SS for 2011 WRX 4 door Red. I will have to say I am impressed with the WRX and looking forward to upgrading. Still trying to do research on stuff so I dont make any mistakes. Right now the car is stock with 27000 with boost gauge and head unit in from previous owner.
Right now I am keeping the car for DD but might turn into a track/auto x car. Parts I have looked into are whitelines front/rear 22mm adjustable sway bar with kartboy front/rear endlinks and whitelines strut bar. I have bounced back and forth from coilovers and spring/strut combo just because although I plan on turning into a track/auto x car it will still be my DD (most likely). I havent been able to do a lot of research on spring/strut combos so I was looking for suggestions and tell me if I am wrong but I have heard BC Racing Coilovers are fairly good. As for other parts, i am set on the Invidia Q300 burnt tips exhaust with with invidia catless dp, intake (havent done any research on intakes), Cobb tune. Also for aftermarket wheel, i was looking to go 17x9.5 or 18x9.5 but i have read that 9.5 would rub with factory suspension, so would the spring/strut combo help with that? And correct me if I am wrong but doesnt wider wheels/tires reduce handling for track/auto x courses? Thanks in advance for help and input!

Here's some advice for suspension:
1) 24mm front, 22mm rear 2) skip the strut tower bar (unless you're getting the rear one for a hatchback wrx) 3) bilstein struts w/ RCE yellow springs are real nice. You'll want to purchase Whiteline's center roll kit as well as lowering your car will f**k up your suspension geometry. In terms of your power-related mods: 1) skip the intake and use the money for a downpipe 2) Cobb tunes are alright, but generic. Maybe you'd be interested in getting an e-tune that would be made specifically for your car? |

I skipped the Cobb maps and went for an e-tune instead, using the AccessPort as a way to flash it on my car. I haven't heard about Cobb adjusting any OTS maps, so maybe someone else can chime in about that. If they do adjustments for you, then that's pretty much what an e-tune would be. |

Well done Chillengillon. Just razzin' ya a little. I've not heard of Cobb modifying OTS maps, as was previously mentioned. Many have gone with a Torqued Performance map that can be tweaked for your car, as Mr Wrex mentioned. Many swear by them so check that out. IMHO, the best option is a protune on a dyno/street. Dyno tune to get everything 99%, then street to get it 99.99%. No such thing as a perfect tune, but close enough for government work. |
