SpeedMasterLee’s 05 STi Journal- Daily driver to a weekend warrior GTX3071+FULL RACE
This thread will be journaling the build of my 05 STi that I have slowly and meticulously chronicled in the 7+ years that I have owned the car. I have no idea why I never made a journal on NASIOC before but it is better late then never. When I first purchased the STi in Oct of 2004, I kept telling myself that I would not modify the car too much. But as time went on I could not control myself and the never ending build began. Through out the years modifying my STi has become an uncontrollable obsession for me. It has not only been a hobby but a way of life. I will try and post the pictures of my build in a chronological order from past to present.

It was the only Aspen White Subaru I could find anywhere around me. Super stock, virgin engine bay. Within the first couple of months of having the car a buddy of mine told me that he wanted to do an article in a automotive magazine called AUTOTIME which is similar to Motortrend in the US comparing the Chinese WRX with the USDM STi. My car only had a CUSCO front strut bar and rear V-brace at the time. Other than those two mods the car was completely stock. I was more than happy to help out. Magazine Cover: The article in Chinese of course: A little comparison chart between the WRX and the STi Here is an actual picture that was used for the article.

Then the mod bug bit me in the ass.
First up was the INVIDIA Downpipe with race cat for just that extra itty bitty horse power. Last edited by SpeedMasterLee; 01-06-2012 at 02:55 AM. |

Then I decided that I would start with the suspension mods. First up CUSCO Zero2E with E-Con aligned and corner balanced for aggressive street driving by Daryn at West End Alignment in Gardena, CA.

When I took the car to the alignment shop Daryn noticed that I had flipped my rear strut bar and bent my rear endlinks after a local shop had installed the coilovers. He temporarily straightened them out for me but this was only a temporary fix. I then decided to hit Turn In Concepts and purchase new rear Kartboy Endlinks to replace my stock ones. I also purchased a couple of other goodies along with the endlinks.
Whiteline Steering Rack Bushings Kartboy Rear End Links TiC Tranny Crossmember Bushings Whiteline 24mm front and rear sway bars CUSCO Engine and Transmission Mount During this time I actually drove my car quite regularly to Las Vegas so I decided to add a custom oil cooler. Was bored one day so I decided to take a nice drive up to Palos Verdes and take some random pictures. Sorry outside is stock but its whats inside that counts. Right? Added some Perrin Stiffies and NRG Carbon Look dampers.

On Feb of 2008 I purchased a set of used ADVAN TCII 18x8.5 +37 with crappy Falken all season tires on them which I later replaced with RT-615's.

I then purchased a set of used CUSCO Un-equal length Headers which gave me much better low end throttle response while still keeping the boxer rumble.

Then came along a JDM Fujitsubo Legalis Super R one piece exhaust. It was actually a JDM version so had to modify the flange to make it mate up to the USDM INVIDIA DP.
Then more suspension mods: Do Luck 7 point Aluminum SubFrame Brace Last edited by SpeedMasterLee; 01-06-2012 at 03:23 AM. |

Here goes the updates in the order they were upgraded.
Defi Hood with Defi Boost, Exh Temp, and Fuel Pressure installed. Oh yeah if yo havent noticed by now I am a suspension whore. I am a firm believer in suspension first and power second. Turn In Concepts Fender Braces, MSI Trailing arms, TiC Front Trailing Arm Bushings, Kartboy Pitch mount, Kartboy Short Shifter. I bought a set of Tomei headers when I thought that my CUSCO ones had cracked. Everytime I went past 3 thousand RPM I would hear a metalic rattle under my car. After taking off the header and replacing the stock up-pipe with the TOMEI up-pipe it turned out that it was the heat sheald on the stock up-pipe that had broken off and was rattling in the engine bay. I had to give up my Do-Luck brace to install these headers. TOMEI Header and Up-pipe, sorry these are the latest pictures. Didn't get a chance to take pictures when I first got them. M1 Chromoly Sub Frame Brace. My first brace was a Do Luck brace but ended up going back to stock for a bit when I changed my headers to the Un-equal length Tomei Headers which do not fit with it. After a while of not having a sub frame brace I came across a very nice M1 brace that I could not keep my hands off of. There was definitely an improvement with both aftermarket sub frame braces I have used. It just makes the front end feel much more connected and really stable at high speeds and turns. From going from CUSCO to TOMEI headers the stock undertray was getting beat up and stretched out from the heat. Beatrush Aluminum Under tray was installed to fix this issue. My stock brake rotors lasted through two sets of brake pads and close to 70,000 miles before the rotors needed to be changed.
APM Two piece front rotors, rear DBA400 slotted, Ferrodo DS2500, Grimmspeed brake master cylinder brace, and whiteline front A arm bushings. Custom Earls Brake Steel Braided brake lines were also installed but not shown in this picture. APM Two Piece Rotors vs Stock Sti Rotors Last edited by SpeedMasterLee; 01-06-2012 at 05:12 PM. |

My buddy had a brand new HKS Kansai Rear Diffuser sitting in his shop for years and I was just tired of seeing it not being used. Finally decided to make him and offer use the damn thing. Installing the diffuser required alot of cutting into the stock bumper and modifying of the HKS Diffuser bracket that came with the kit. The end result speaks for itself.

I went from Do-Luck---->stock---->M1 I can definitely say that it helped tighten up the front end quite a bit. At high speeds the car was much more stable and at low speeds the car was much less harsh over road imperfections. |

Oh thats a buddy of mine who ownes the black hawkeye 06 STi of the right side of that picture. With the E-Con my car is very flexible in terms of handling. I can go from & little bit better than stock to go cart in a few seconds. When I have it set up for maximum handling the car has almost no roll.
