Mod of the day: Home Improvement
I decided to start this thread because i am a new homeowner and i know theres alot of homeowners on this forum that also enjoy modding their homes as much as their cars.... well almost.
This could be anything from new floors, to painting the walls, to getting new furniture or TV etc. Built a new deck? Post up some pics! So i just bought a condo in North Burnaby near Lougheed and Gaglardi. Its on the 17th floor, SW view and in suprisingly good shape for a building thats 31 years old. Its got a new kitchen and the carpet is newer..... but..... the bathroom is a 1977 time capsule. im going to demolish it. Im removing the tub and putting in a 60"x30" shower stall with a rain shower head, Halogen shower lights and new tiles etc etc. Im looking for a pre-fab shower floor pan with an offset drain (drain at one end like a bathtub rather than directly in the center like a traditional shower) so i can avoid replumbing the drain. any drain replumbing would involve me going to the downstairs neighbor and ripping a hole in their ceiling. (thats bad) anyone know where i can find one?

good luck looking for a pre-fab floor tray of that size (60x30)
I was looking into something like that 3 years ago when i was doing my basement washroom and turned out that I went with a plain low cut bath tub. Back then, if i wanna go with a nice floor tray with drain at the end of the tub, I found a company that can custom make one but the price is crazy. Or you can go DIY with plastic liners and custom tiles on top. It is a very complicated job if you wanna DIY. Forget about asking questions at burnaby homedepot, they suck ! |

well they make a center drain 60x30 at home depot. its about $400. they can make a custom 60x30 offset drain for about $600-something.
i dont think home depot is the cheapest price though. |

ewwwww, changing bathtubs sucks. Mine was out of commission for about two weeks while a fiddle-farted around with the tiling. Bathrooms tend to be built AROUND the bathtub

Here's some for you!
For the deck the one side still needs to be finished and turns out I have to replace the stair case the old one was partly rotten. So while we have the materials and saws out might as well do it right the first time... Also still have to cut a bigger hole in the wall of the house to change the window into a slider. But with all the snow we still have we have to wait till in melts a bit more. Then next install the fire place and motorized awning with funky patio lights. That cost more then an expensive set of coil overs... hummm coil overs... This was the basement suite bathroom I was going to scrap the silicon out then re grout it but it turn into a mess.. And with the time restraints, I had a day to finish this! I had to go with a liner but I thought it turned out well. |

rain showers are FTMFW. I used them in singapore and definitely awesome (if there's enough pressure that is).

The liner, I think it was around 125-175 it was back in the summer when I picked it from Home depot they had a few different sizes and cost's. Also I used a bucket of adheasive and one of those tile paddles with the small grooves in it. It works way better then trying to use a silicone or caulk gun. |

If you want a deck liner, you should talk to my work neighbours, Armor Deck. Liners is all they do, and they have a ton of choice. Drop me a line, and I can head across the parking lot to see if I can snag you a deal when the time comes.

Welcome to the homeowners club. A couple of places come in mind regarding your shower base. There's Universal Supply(2835 12th ave Van.) Where I bought my shower base for one of my bathrooms Or Andrew Sheret(Splashes)425 E Broadway where I bought most of my fixtures. My en-suite I had to DIY using forming and cement because its quite a larger base than normal plus I wanted to add a bench and a steamer. Just a couple of suggestions worth checking out. Good luck |
