Can Subaru do more aggressive Diff settings like the ProDrive P2 http://youtube.com/watch?v=bR96aWfpWN0

This is all the STi needs to dominate but the Diff settings are to tame and similar to make a real difference. I have a Best Motoring Video where they test both cars and the results are the same... Evo over the STi on every test other than a straight line. I mean the Evo's diff settings are very aggressive and vary but the STi just havent taken that extreme step.

The STi DID go around their test track faster, however.

In the End I would still get teh STi though... more comfy and I like the Hatch style...but Damned if the Evo wont kick my arse stock for stock around the track.

Guess it depends on the track.

Besides the trunk spoiler on the Evo, I realize how much more I like the look of the Evo vs the STi. Decent comparison - the STi was quicker around the track, and it will ride much nicer in everyday driving. But the Evo does look much tighter and balanced.

No surprise here. I would take the Evo X over the new STi.

Well, Clarkson:
  1. still thinks the DCCD changes f/r power bias, which it doesn't. It only alters the amount of lock-up in the center diff... which being 50/50 doesn't do a thing to the power bias.
  2. only compared the EVO with 20% more power to the STI while the 300hp version of the EVO lost to the 'too soft' 300hp STI around the track in the hands of the Stig.

If Clarkson's dislike had the power to "destroy" things, half the cars on the road would be "destroyed".

I saw it too and I do have to agree with topgear as well. I like the sedan body style over the hatch, thats what made a rex a rex. It was a fast 4 door, family sedan that goes fast as hell and handles very well.

Yeah, I suppose that's why the WRX was launched as both a sedan and wagon.. and has sold in both body styles for 15 years.

but on his comparison he wasn't even comparing a stock evo to the stock sti. he had a hoped up evo and a stock sti. seemed rather unfair. once they got both stockers to the track then the real winner showed up

Only one person has noted that in the review they used the EVO FQ360 against a Stock STI. Of course it would run rings around it.

Then once put on the track with the Stig driving they used the stock EVO X against a stock STI. Much better comparison there.

But it's fairly obvious once again that Subaru have a lot of work to do with the 08's.
You can see that the thing just won't slide progressively, appears twitchy and difficult to control.
The beast of an engine it has saves it, but once again, it's clear that they dropped the ball with driver involvement, which is 90% of the point of these cars anyway.
I really hoped it would be better, but looks like I'll be going evo next year...

Ahhh.....hello people........the STI won.

I was shocked to see that. Based on all the crap the STI gets in the press and how the new Evo has the amazing handling, I was absolutely floored to see the Evo lose!!!

I have dissed the new STI on here before for it's lack of proper seats(which it still desperately needs), no DSG to answer the SST with, and no AYC. But the Stig seems to have proved all the mags wrong!!

Also if you notice where the STI lands on the board of times, it's up there with amazingly fast cars. It's faster around that track than a Dodge frickin Viper people!

You have to give Subaru their props for that showing, and with the lower quality 17 inch wheels too. Just imagine they had the stickier and wider 18 inch BBS's on there.

What do you all think, how is it that the Stig beat an Evo X and a Dodge Viper around that track with an STI on 17's?

Does the 17" wheel have re070s on it? That could explain a lot. The stock 18" Dunlops are not a great "race" tire.

Yeah, watch this one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=j2oUaiXs9...eature=related

Key Points

- the FQ360 only gets 48 miles per fill-up at full throttle.

- in the UK, the base EVO X is 6000 pounds cheaper than the FQ360, and the STI is 7000 pounds cheaper than the EVO X. HAHAHAHAHAHA

- Base STI top gear track speed: 1.28.2 (faster than EVO VIII/VII)

- Base EVO X top gear track speed: 1.28.22

- to Clarkson: "if it's the Subaru, you're going to look like such a knob man..."

So, if you thought that this Top Gear episode was going to resolve some long-standing dispute of which is better, you're mistaken

And to the guy above that said he watched this and chooses the Mitsu EVO X - yeah, I watched another comparison video and have decided that I will buy a Pagani Zonda because it destroys the EVO X FQ360 around the track at Top Gear.

A healthy dose of reality.

I watched this last night, they both looked like they were plowing around the opening turns, but the STi seemed to really sharpen up for the last two, while the Evo seemed to be more of the same.

I LOLed at the Stig trying to start the lap. Anyone who has driven an 08 STI can relate!

1) the STI was faster by 0.02 seconds. all the people posting the STI "won" are retarded
2) 18" wheels would probably hinder track performance on the STI. ever hear of inertial mass?
3) who the hell buys cars based on what clarkson says anyway? he's entertaining, and i agree with him on most points, but who cares?

I think the reasons the STI won is that they used the SST equiped EVO from a standing start...according to Edmonds, that spotted the STI .7 sec just from 0-60 as the SST cannot be launched like the MT (the MT looses 0.4 sec to 60 and is going faster than the STI at the end of the 1/4 mile). Even the host said they were using the "lower" EVO for comparison.

With only 0.02 sec difference, that means that the EVO actually made up almost 0.7 sec in 1 lap. Had they used the MT or had a rolling start it might have been different.

That said, it is how the test is done. for the program so congrats to the STI...but I do think it flattered it somewhat.

Does the UK version come with 17's??? I know in the US you can either get ugly 18's or even uglier 18's, but no 17's.
