Default Changing signal bulb in tail light Q!

Hey guys,

So I have a 07 wrx, and I bought me some 04-05 tails a year ago. The thing with these tails is that the turn signal bulb blinks white (the bulb itself looks blue). I'm kind of paranoid to signal around cops and i'm scared cars can't see it during the day. I was wondering if any of you guys know how I could change this bulb and which bulb i should replace it with so that it blinks yellow like stock.

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: Sorry, this information is pretty much useless. See below

You need to pick up a set of PY21W amber bulbs. They might be kind of hard to find at autoparts stores, but the dealer will have them. There are also some cool bulbs in that size like these:

http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/mer...Category_Code=

and these:

http://www.autolamps-online.com/products/svpage.htm

Both of them light up amber like they are supposed to but look blue or clear.

Respectfully, I wouldn't mess with either of those suggested bulbs...

Basic amber tail light blinker is bulb #1156, and basic amber FRONT turn signal is #7440a.

Here's a link to a cheap REAR #1156 or PY21W... and the front 7440a's they have at any autozone or pep boys. Good luck.

I posted some bad information and I think msesno is a little confused too.

The front in my JDM 02 headlights is the PY21W (not the same as an 1156). The 1156 has two locating pins. One at 12 O'clock and one at 6 O'clock. The PY21W has two as well, one at 12 O'clock and one at like 5 O'clock. I can't remember what my stock ones were. I figured that your fronts would be those as well. But I just looked it up and the site I found says 7440 front and rear.

The rear says a 7440. Which you can get from pretty much any auto parts store. Or you can order something like what I posted above in the 7440 size

I thought the rears were 1156? I could be wrong, but just pull one bulb out and take a look at it! 7440a is just 7440 amber coated. I replaced my cleared bulbs with sylvania 7440a's in my cleared headlights and it makes a world of difference, I love it. Swing by pep boys and pick up a set and swap. You'll be happy. Oh and make sure you post up about the official rear turn signal bulb #! GL

Yea, just do that. I have no idea what bulb it is now. I wish I had my car around me. I'd go check but I don't. If it doesn't say anything on it since you have aftermarket bulbs, most auto parts stores can look the bulb up based on the application. Just make sure to try it before you leave, since the application guides for stuff like that is notoriously bad.

What ever bulb it is 7440a or PY21W they make those two types of amber bulbs that appear differently from the outside, in either version. So if you like the look of the clear bulbs better than the amber, there are legal, amber lighting, options out there.

Again sorry for the confusion earlier.

I know for a fact that 7440 is for front blinker on 04/05 because I just replaced one. I THINK the rears are 1156 but I'm not sure... depending on the year I have heard they are 7440. You'll see the difference when you look at the bulb. 7440's look like oversized 168/194's and have no base. Here's what they look like for reference.

7440

1156

oooweee yeah well i'm just looking for amber taillight bulbs. That's what you mean by rear bulbs right? i'm not looking for the headlight bulbs. So you guys aren't sure if the size is 7440? And i haven't looked at it yet, but i'm assuming installing these bulbs are simple?

THANKS!

Should be 7440... or 7440a if you want the amber. I just picked up a set of sylvania 7440a's for my fronts at..... pep boys of all places. Ran me about 6.99 for a package of two. Just don't let somewhere like that install them for you!

No offense to anyone.

Don't guess.

I have a 2006 and I have the 04/05 tail lights.

Tail light bulbs:
Turn signal: 7440NA (NA=Natural Amber)
Back up: 7440
Outer park/brake: 7443
Middle park: 7443
Inner brake: 7440

Front 2006/2007
Side Marker: W5W (in the U.S., they put in the dimmer 168/194 bulb)
Turn signal: 7440NA
City Light: W5W

Read the markings on the headlamps and you will see "W5W"

7440A is what I just did, I like the ambers much better and only place I could find them was pep boys. Just call before and ask if they have it. On install, pull back the liner, twist out the lamp(bulb), pull the bulb straight out, replace, reverse. Its easy, 6.99 and then change them yourself. If you swapped for 04 tails you can change one bulb in it. Do it and let us know! GL
