Too bad this thread got so filthy so quickly. I guess there IS a reason LGT can mod their own threads.

Still need a good NON-hybrid 205>>255/7 ENGINE swap thread.

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, but what difficulties would I encounter if I tried to put a 05 STI motor into a 06 WRX ??

The PO of my engine (he put 5k miles on it and I have put 3k miles on it) used a full 07 sti long block and adapted it to be non avcs and with a wrx manifold, drive by cable. Car runs great with my 20g.

The mods he mentioned and that I noticed were blocking off the avcs solenoids, running custom oil lines to the feeds and having the heads cnc'd to ensure the cams are getting proper oil.

The one thing that he did, without knowing I'm sure is use EJ207 cams which I have found out, have less lift than stock EJ205 cams. If I ever have to pull the engine again, I will be replacing them with something proper.

Default 99 OBS swap?

I broke the timing belt in my 99 Impreza OBS. I'm pretty sure the engine is shot, so I'm just looking to swap it if possible. The engine type is EJ222CX1VB. Is this phase I or phase II, and does it matter which it is when I go to put in a new engine? Are there any "plug and play" options for this? I'd like to put a WRX engine in if possible or at least a 2.5. This is my first engine swap though and the car was my DD, so less complicated is better. Thanks

I suggest begin reading from the first page of this thread for the 2.5 swap. Or look up the 207 thread. I'm subscribed to this one and the 207 to learn...been observing and researching prior to my swap attempt.

HI,
Start reading up on RS25.com...they're your new 'home'.

your '99 EJ222 is a Phase 2. Your direct swap is another engine from a '99-'01 Impreza or '99 Legacy (NON-outback/GT)

An EJ25 from an RS or Forester 'should' also be a direct swap, from '99-'2005.

BUT!! I know the '99 2.5 is MAF, but not sure if the 2.2 is MAP.. You'll need to look into that. But you should just be able to move your intake manifold over to either the 2.2 or 2.5 and be good to go.AND you'll need a DUAL-port exhaust manifold (header) for the 2.5 heads.

A WRX swap always sounds fun 'til you get into the wiring and cost.

Thanks for the answer wtdash. I have the opportunity to pick up a 98 Forester, but I can't find any info about using that engine in anything else... How much different is it than the other ej25's? Is it going to be much more difficult to use for my swap? Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I searched for a couple hours yesterday and can't find any solid info on this particular year Forester.

Geez, I've answered this question on enough Subaru sites to be obnoxious...U didn't find my posts? :-)

'98 Forester is the EJ25D. Plug and play w/the '96-'99 Legacy Outback, GT and LSi, and the '98 Impreza RS. It's also regularly swapped (when the HG and rod bearings blow) out for the Phase 1 EJ22 ('90-'98).

EDIT: You can't use the shortblock in your '99 OBS (not RS), because w/your heads you'll make a 'frankenstein' engine that is HIGH CR. You can read up on here about others that HAVE done it, but not worth the hassle, IMHO.

But I'd reconsider using ANY used EJ25D unless you know the '98 Forester's history. Even ONE bad overheat event can fry the rod bearings enough for them to fail on you w/little warning (@ least when the HG fail it's usually gradual).

Default Flywheel and clutch help for my specific build

Had 05 WRX 2.0/5Spd- Building EJ25/EJ20 Hybrid 5Spd

Question is flywheel and clutch related but for build reference long block is assembled with the following.

-OEM crank
-Manley H rods
-JE pistons
-OEM gasket kit w/ Felpro head gaskets
-ARP studs
-OEM water and oil
-Gates Racing timing belt kit
-Walbro fuel pump/filter
-OEM blue injectors

Bolt ons
-Refurbished VF39 with TMIC w/HKS SSQV
-Perrin turbo inlet and cold air
-AP 80MM Downpipe
-Greddy 80MM Ti-C
-Also have AEM tru boost controller

Do I reuse OEM 2.0/5Spd flywheel if in good condition? If so do I get 2.5/5Spd aftermarket clutch and are they compatible? Or do I get an aftermarket lightweight flywheel and clutch for 2.5/5Spd and is it push or pull for me?

I'm obviously not interested in clutch flywheel combos for other sized hybrid builds and different years so I had to ask pertaining specically for my build which I can't find info for.

I'm gonna have power and need a combo to back it. Clearly I want to race her but will also be a commuter most of the time. My budget is about 700 but if a specific is needed that costs more I can come up with another 100 or 2. I've heard to go with Clutchmasters, ACT even Exedy for a cheapy.

I know so little about all this but have come such a long way and have learned so much. Please be easy on me for I just need guidance on this next step. If this has been covered already sorry for wasting space on this thread. My brain is currently frying. Not to mention I dont know who the hell to listen to on here. Who ever the master is please tell me EXACTLY what I want. i.e stage, brand, reuse fly or new fly and clutch that match and push or pull.

Thanks dudes

Hi,
- The trans doesn't care what engine is in front of it. (The FW matches the trans, even though it's installed on on the engine's crank.)
- Reuse your 2.0 stuff.
- '02-'05 WRX are PULL -type clutch.
- Get a HD (heavy-duty) '02-'05 clutch and PP.
- I don't like LW FW's, but do some more research - some love 'em.

To be clear you have an EJ255 block between EJ205 heads, correct? (EJ25/EJ20 - block / heads)

Hey there! I am currently trying to go the opposite way most people are and trying to put a 2006 WRX 255 into a 07 STI. People are saying the engines wiring harness will be different and will not be directly received by the 07 STI harness due to AVCS. They have been saying weíd need to swap the heads from the 257 we took out onto the 255. Is this true?

Question 2003 2.5rs Engine swap

Hey so im new to this and I had some questions regarding an engine swap. I just bought a 2003 Subaru impreza 2.5rs and I wanted to turbo it but I did my research and found out It would be better to swap the engine. Ive been looking into it and a lot of people either do an ej25 or ej20. The car is automatic. So essentially my questions are which one should I do? is the jdm ej25 worth it? can I swap the engine and leave the transmission and if so which upgrades will help it sustain the power from the engine?

Default 2009 legacy into 2007 impreza (2.5i n/a ej253?)

I've been searching for weeks on this, and couldn't find much (mostly vague answers)
What can I swap from a wrecked 2009 legacy (non turbo) into my 2007 impreza with rod knock? Both are base models.

From what I've seen they have the same engine, and subarus are mostly like legos. I just can't find details, and if I have to use the legacy's wiring harness/other parts.

Not sure where you're searching...But yes, that should be a direct swap and as is the case w/these swaps, KEEP your intake manifold from your Impreza.

Caveat: Ensure that the donor is NOT a PZEV version or if yours IS, it must match.

[quote=domestic_abuser;31150066]First off are you going to use the long block or the short block? I assume by the AVCS question that you are using the longblock. In this case you yes the block with drop right in. You will have to swap a couple sensors, like the coolant sensor over from your wrx. You will not need to use the immobilizer since you will be using your stock ECU and not the STi's. You will not need the Gruppe-s cam position sensor since the block is already tapped for the ver.7 cam sensor.

This is strictly my opinion so take it how you want. AVCS is a good thing, but far from necessary. Nearly all high power cars run non-avcs cams due to being able to run more power up top. Sure they do good points, but it depends on what your goals are.

Did I answer your questions?
Iím new to this forum I was just trying to get some info on some swaps and have read through a lot and havenít found anything useful I have a 06 impreza 2.5i 5spd and need to replace motor I found a 04 forester Xt with auto tranny for donar if you can give me a run down for this particular swap that would be great I just wanna know how complicated and if the automatic tranny in the forester is gonna throw anything off in because I plan on keep the 5 spd tranny from original motor

Not sure how much of this is gibberish or misquoted or ? If you haven't found anything useful....I'd just stop.

You can't use an XT engine. Not compatible.....it'll bolt up, but won't run well, if @ all. Plus it's a USED TuRBo engine, which i wouldn't trust anyway.

Auto vs. manual doesn't matter much.

Default 05 OBXT EJ255 into 06 WRX

Hi there! I have a 05 OBXT and I just bought an 06 WRX without an engine. I would like to drop the OBXT engine into the WRX.

Upon looking at the two side by side (3) immediate problems: engine harness connector to car, airbox filter location, TMIC interference/fitment.

Cheapest plan I have come up with so far is to buy an 06 wrx engine harness and merge with OBXT harness. Modify the splitter for TMIC and buy factory wrx airbox.

Do I need wrx coolant sensor and or cam sensors/pulleys? Others?

If the fitment becomes a real pain I have a leftover 05 DBW NA manifold then buy wrx factory TMIC and bpv.

And all else fails shell out the money for wrx manifold and tmic and 02-06 style turbo.

Any experiences with this swap? I tried a few searches but my googlefu may not be strong enough.

Just trying to figure out best way of going about this without destroying obxt shell and having an angry wife!

Thanks!

engine harness connector to car = WRX IM w/WRX harness - '06-'07 only?

airbox filter location = WRX - '02-'07?

TMIC interference/fitment = WRX/FXT TMIC + Turbo - '06-'07 WRX; '06-'08 FXT.
>>>Also, the scoop's splitter is a part of that...hopefully still on the WRX hood?
