The turbocharger on the WRX is a Mitsu TD04. Coincidentally, it sucks.

Mitsu makes good turbos... ISUZU desil trucks uses them, I think you can find them on certain years of the 300zx, RX-7, etc...

as far as subies go, I think the WRC mandates mitsu turbos to keep the hassle of illegal turbos to a minimum, and to keep the teams from cheating.

If it works, why re-invent the wheel?

WRC cars don't use a crappy sleeve bearing'd mitsu turbo! Try something along the line of an IHI VF-15.. with seriously pricey innards in order to withstand the rigors of an anti-lag system.

Mitsubishi actually makes really good turbos.
Dont know about the version on the subaru but on the Evo, it has a light titanium turbine or something similiar which reduces lag and is quite advanced.

I think Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Industries? are different companies, originated from a single company though. They make all sorts of things. A lot of engine components are not made by FHI. They just put it all together to make a car.

don't forget the many components made by Hitachi. My old GL had a Hitachi radiator, alternator, distributor and maybe even carburetor.

there are lots of parts not made by subaru.

on the 80's subaru there is TONNES of hitachi!! almost everything was hitachi!! the carb, alt, dist, vaccum relays and stuff. it's all hitachi!!

Next time you guys are under the hood check out the A/C and alternator belts. They're made by MitsubOshi (no that's not a typo) and their logo is a three-triangle design (a knockoff of the Mitsubishi's tri-diamond). I saw this and was amused greatly

Some major parts too. The E4AT Automatic in both of my subies is a Nissan tranny. Same one used in the 300ZX TT!

I love the fact that Subaru ( a drivetrain oriented company) buys its interior and electrical parts from nissan (also a drivetrain company). I certainly wouldn't say nissan is any better at interiors than any other company including Ford. My Roomate has a nissan pickup and its a terrible rattle trap with a very minimal level of ergonomics. My dad's F250 of the same era is certainly screwed together better. The engine was nice though in the nissan.

Maybe Subaru should start sourcing wheel bearings and interior parts from somewhere else......
