Default 02-07 OEM Heated Seat Install Questions

Greetings all!

I own a 2006 WRX TR sedan. I recently came upon a deal for an entire interior swap, out of a 2007 STi limited with only 17k miles on it (a unicorn by my standards). I have been looking for a swap like this for a long time and with how rare the 07 STi limited already is, its nearly impossible to source a full, mint, interior swap, thus I am doing everything in my power to get my hands on it.

For those who are not aware, the 2007 STi limited was deemed a "grown up" STi and was available only in 2007 and limited to 800 units (in the US); 400 in Aspen White, and 400 in Urban Grey Metallic. They featured a wing and roof vane delete replaced by a low profile STi lip spoiler, black Brembo brake calipers instead of the gold ones, 17" enkei wheels (I have these on my car already) instead of standard BBS wheels, fog lights, a black heated leather interior (an STi first, at least in the US) with grey STi embroidery on the headrests, red hazard button, and black center console and HVAC vent trim, and a numbered plate on the console showing which number XXX/800 it was.

The swap I am eyeing includes:
- Front Driver/Passenger seats (heated)
- Rear Seat
- All 4 door cards w/ switch gear (important for passenger front, keep reading)
- Both heated seat switches
- Whatever wiring i think I might need, the seller will pull for me and send with the swap

I have disassembled/reassembled many GD/GG cars both inside/out and I'm very familiar with how they go together and pride myself on being pretty mechanically proficient. I can physically swap the seats, hook up the airbag connectors and bolt them in no problem, I've done it plenty of time's before. I do however have some questions regarding making the heated seat function work. I have done some extensive reading on people swapping the same generation WRX limited interior into cars like mine and I have learned some stuff but am still unclear on quite a bit so here goes:

WHAT I KNOW:
- cars without heated interior as standard come with about half the wiring necessary to make the swap work. The relay block in the drivers foot-well has a few open slots which are used for heated seats as well as a rear accessory plug if you have a wagon.
- from this relay block runs a wiring loom to the outer passenger foot-well kick panel which ends there.
- Due to the STi limited have the DCCD roller and manual lock switches located in the center console as all 6-speed STi models do, the passenger heated seat switch was relocated to the passenger door handle, in front of the window switch. The drivers heated seat switch was relocated to the left of the steering wheel, and to the right of the the fog light/IC water spray/headlight leveler switches (it's the smallest blank when you look at all of them). I put a 2007 STi drive-line into my car and I have plans for the center console blanks so I want to use the STi limited locations for the switches.

WHAT I DON'T KNOW:
- what kind/size of relay do I need for the block in the drivers foot-well?
- what does the end of the wiring loom look like in the passenger foot-well? What plug is it?
- Would the harness from the front passenger door on the STi limited be different than my passenger door harness, due to the heated switch being there, and thus contain a "plug and play" solution for at least the passenger switch?
- Same goes for the switch in the dash on the drivers side, due to its location, is it possible there is a harness I can utilize?
- If the above 2 options turn out to be dead ends, what all do I need to make as far as wiring harnesses?

I am looking to make this swap look and function as it did from the factory in the STi limited. I would like the switches to work on high/low and light up as the do normally. I am good at wiring, soldering, and building small harnesses so as long as I can get some guidance, I can tackle this no problem.

I am not near my car so I can't really check what I have/don't have to work with at the moment. I am in no rush as it will be a while before the seats are able to be shipped to me and even if I can't get the heaters working right away, swapping the seats in is easy and I can always wire it up later.

Most of what I read in the other threads I searched was given by a user named Big-E who has helped me before so shout out to them, would be awesome if they (or anyone) had any more info or pics and can chime in.

Other than his information, most people response was "just buy aftermarket heater elements" but seeing as this is the swap I want and I will more than likely get my hands on it eventually, I am going to make it work one way or another. Anyways sorry for the wall of text, any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Any questions please ask and I will do my best to answer. Thank you!

I added heated seats to my bugeye with an ebay kit. It came with oem style switches that look very similar to the ones in my '04 Premium WRX with the OEM heated seats. Wiring was a simple add-a-circuit and it had some inline fuses IIRC. As far as installing them into the seat, it's very easy to do and you just need cutting dykes, hogring pliers and hogrings.

This is the kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/18087110697...E:L:OU:US:1120

Relay-block located to the right of the fuse-block non-STI model

Top of relay block:

6. Rear Power Supply (wagon) / Heated Seats / 2004 manual lists this for the STI HID Lamps
5. Heater Mirrors ~ Heated Windshield
4. Starter Interlock [part of security system]
3. Fog Lamps
2. Power Windows / Sunroof
1. Ignition Relay

Bottom of relay block:

Fuse-1 (blank) / Fuse-2 (blank) / Fuse-3 (for ABS control module system) 10-ampere fuse colored red / Fuse-4 (for Rear Power Supply / Heated Seats) 20-ampere fuse colored yellow

What's needed:

A 5-pin micro-relay and a 20-amp mini-fuse.

Blue wire at passenger side connector: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...ht=heated+seat

In general, the main power circuit comes out of the relay and is split at the two switches located at the center console.

Then out of each switch is a low power circuit, a high power circuit, and a ground to the chassis. The low power and high power circuit from a switch goes to a seat heater. The seat heater has its own ground to the chassis.

Without reference from the FSM, it may be likely that the 'blue wire' was split from behind the relay block for the 2007 STI LTD, with one line going to dash switch and then to the LH (driver's) seat, and the other line into the door to the RH (passenger's) switch and then out of the door to the RH (passenger's) seat.

If this is true, I would suggest splitting off of the 'blue wire' at the back of the relay block for the LH (driver's) seat and tying into the connector at the passenger's side for the RH (passenger's) seat. Why recreate an entire harness when you can use what is already in place?

Thanks for the reply! While I know this is an option and might be a little easier I want to use the factory STi limited seats and make those work instead of tearing into my old seats.

Big-E

Thank you for responding!

I went and looked at the post you reference, I know which blue wire you're talking about. When you say split the blue wire off the relay block, should I just tee off of it or is there some better way? This sorts out how to get power to the switches, but then does anyone have a diagram for the switches so I can hook them up to the seats correctly.

UPDATE: Seats are being shipped out to me today and should be here around the end of this year or beginning of next. The harnesses that were in the limited were all either trashed or couldn't be removed so that avenue is out the window.

Any further wiring clarification anyone can offer? Big-E's post was for sure helpful however I'm still not sure of how to make the harness from the switches to the seat and the cars harness as I'm not sure what wire do what on the seats or what pins are what on the back of the heated seat switch.

Get the connectors out of any Subaru with heated seats. You only need the connectors that plug into the 2 switches. Get power from the cig lighter power. Ground them under the seats somewhere.

I've had both my seat heaters on and 2 phones charging without blowing the fuse.
