We shall see. I doubt they will build a mid engine car and then not give at least the option of going with a proven racing suspension design.

-The Cobra itself was an AC Ace (British car) modified in America with an American engine. This is a complicated origin from a legal standpoint, I think, as far as who ends up claiming OEM of the car, since AC I think was on its way out at the time anyway. -Once Shelby established his work with the Cobra, I don't think that from a legal standpoint he pursued the replica makers "strong enough" for several decades. He began pursuing them strong enough only in the last decade and legally, if you can't prove you were battling in court "strong enough", you somewhat lose your right to your brand. A lawyer will probably write the above much better than this engineer can.. Anyway, the same situation will not happen with established companies like Daimler Benz, Alfa Romeo S.P.A (of FIAT Auto, BTW), Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. These people could unleash such a legal battlestorm if a Factory Five replica of one of their beloved classics appears..... forgetaboutit. I'm not so sure about Marcos and DeLorean, that may work, especially if the body itself is only an evolution of the original body. Lancia was at one point going to be wound down by FIAT Auto. I think this is why the Czech guy that wants to start making Stratos evolved replicas was able to start working towards this. I wonder if he's going to be pursued legally by the Italian Styling House that styled the Stratos in the first place, even if FIAT will leave him alone. I want to say that the Stratos was a Bertone. |

Meh, exactly why bother with a replica when there's a clean slate?
Sure you can be inspired by other cars, just as every single car is and they tend to look like each other, but make it somehow original. I'm glad they're having an open design contest to help them come up with the final body. |

They should just partner up with Prodrive and bring the P2 into production.

I'll be impressed if they can keep the price near the target. Time to find some WRX engine and trans dimensions and start rendering some ideas if it's going to be a community project...Wonder if they'll retain the top-mount or use something else (air-to-water, etc.)? Very cool--I hope things work out. |

I think one company (Australian) has a conversion kit for the transmission that basically removes the rear output shaft from a 5MT.

They could use a WRX transmission with a FWD "transfer case" (back cover with a set of gears in it) or they could use a bellhousing adapter with a VW (or is it Porsche) gearbox. VW/Porsche might be a bit weak for the power crazy (esp with a lack of gear options) while a WRX transmission (modified) would be a bit long in a RWD setup. Personally I would rather see this as a front engine, rear wheel drive car, though I would not kick it out of bed for being a mid/rear

The AWD transmission with the rear shaft removed would probably be good for about 200 HP. I sure wouldn't try an STi motor.

1800 lb curb weight won't put as much stress on the transmission as a 3100 lb Subaru.

At that, being RWD only, it'll transfer to spinning wheels instead of tranfering the slippage from the wheels that grip, back through the driveline, through the gripping clutch, to the gears.
People thought they were weak. No. Only when being ham fisted and having 'too much' grip. When all the wheels grip, something mechanical has to, and will, give. --kC |

An attainable, newer Delfino Feroce. Works for me.
Top Gear (the old version) did a review of the Feroce, I saw it the other day. It'd be great to see a new roadster with a turbo engine! |

Is there going to be a public vote on body style? That looks awesome btw. Much more appealing to me than the sketch...
