I have a space heater that does a good job heating up the garage now, but I am going to insulate the garage door as well as the walls before I sheetrock. I am doing swisstrax flooring as well, so I won't be in direct contact with the concrete. All of this will make the garage much more comfortable to work in during the colder months. Then possibly in the future putting in an actual heater down the road.

Those are all reasonably affordable improvements to make! I'd be curious how well it retains heat? One of the biggest annoyances I have in the winter is keeping the garage warm enough to do a hand wash (especially when it's sub-zero outside). |

Haha yes sir. I’ve been a long time follower of Matt. I’ve been following his journey since he had his e92 m3. He’s actually from PA, so he’s experienced the harsh winters before. I’ll also be doing cabinets as well, but probably new age and not his trusted saber. We will see though. Proper lighting is on the list as well. Lots to do! You’ll be surprised how well insulation keeps things warm. I too plan on washing in the garage during the winter. However, I’ll be happy if the garage temp stays around 55-65. I don’t need it to be 75+ for me to wash a car or be comfortable. Insulation in the walls, doors, and the swisstrax will keep the space comfortable with my small heater. |

Got a ton of snow the past week and been battling the brutal cold here in NJ the past 2 weeks. Kills me to see the car so dirty, but loving the car more and more seeing what it is capable of in the snow.

Beautiful car. I just put a binder on a barely used 2017 STI Limited (WR Blue), trading in my '08 STI hatch that I've had almost 10 years. Getting a lot of great tips from this thread!

I had been kind of holding out all these years for another version of the hatch, but no luck!

Yep, after the '18's came out, I saw the writing on the wall! The other nice thing is that there's barely any difference from '17 to '18 either. I found a really great deal on this car, less than one year old and 2700 miles original owner.

Placed a small order for a few things. I was getting the itch to do something to the car, but didn't want to do anything too drastic during the winter months. Once it warms up I will revisit the wheels and a few other plans I am wanting to do. For now, these will keep my hands busy.

Some small new mods installed and finally got the car cleaned up after weeks of salt and bitter cold. Feels good to tinker in the car and have it looking proper again.

I've said it before but this is one of the only 15+ that I like. This is so well done and tasteful.

Man you can't ditch those Rays now. They look great with the center caps and lugs.

Even so, I am not 100% certain what wheel I want to go to next so happy I am hanging onto these for a bit longer. I am slightly leaning towards just keeping them as a winter set and saving for a bit longer for some legit volk's for summer. |

I figured I would post a small review of the small mods I did this weekend since I have a little time on my hands to write my thoughts.
I've been wanting to get some center caps on these wheels since I got them, but I was never 100% which style I wanted. I wanted something super simple without any color and that looked good. The choices were very limited, but I decided to go with the more expensive ones as they looked a lot cleaner and simpler than the other choice. After seeing some rust on the center nut after all this salt and winter weather, I knew I had to bite the bullet and spend the $100 bucks to get them. And before I popped them on, I took a wire brush to the center nuts and got all the rust off. Happy to have them protected now. I am also very happy with the look. It was just what I was looking for. Simple, yet effective. Next I noticed my cheapo muteki lugs were started to form some rust. The paint on them was subpar and prone to chipping from taking the wheels on and off over the last few months. As soon as I noticed the rust I went to the computer to order a new set. However, I knew if I got the same kind, it would just happen again. Looked around for something a bit more quality and came across the Rays Dura lugs and locks. Pricey, but I am glad I got them. This is my first set of better quality lug nuts and I was pleasantly surprised. The quality is far superior and I couldn't believe how light they were. Granted I am not trying to shed pounds here, I was happy to be putting something on the car that not only looks better, but shed some weight. I think the white writing really gives the wheels a nice pop to an otherwise boring/plain looking wheel. With the addition of the center caps, I think it works really well. So well, that it made me reconsider selling the wheels for now. But now that I have Ray lugs, I guess I always have to rock Volk/Ray wheels... whoops Lastly, I scooped up some OLM interior LED's. Minor detail, but I couldn't help but become frustrated when my oldest dropped something and was asking for it, but I couldn't find it with the dim lighting from the stock bulbs. The new LED's really update the interior and really allows you to see inside the cabin very well. I didn't want anything too bright as I have done that in the past and felt like I was in a hospital waiting to be checked out. These have a nice output without being over bearing. If anyone is curious as to what is next up, I am hoping to get a few more things done in the Spring. Here are my plans for the next few months. - Rear Sway Bar 22-24mm. Not sure of brand yet, but I was happy with the Eibach I had in my WRX - Side skirt extensions. Most likely will be going with the simple HT auto ones as it flows with my front lip well - USDM Rear Aero Splash guards - 35% tint all around (minus windshield) - F1 style 3rd break light - Shift knob with alcantara e-brake and shift boot - Better speakers or the OEM+ Audio setup - Been thinking of the delta motor works midpipe, but not sure yet. $700 for a midpipe is steep I think that is everything else I have planned for the car. I eventually plan on getting another set of wheels to either replace or tag team with the 57dr's. Depending on what I decide on and when. No immediate plans as of now to tune the car as I want to keep it simple and stock performance wise. I'll be keeping a close eye on the 2020 STI and don't want to dive to deep into this one until I know what the new one is going to offer. That's it for now! LEDs are a simple but huge change. I did them in all my cars at once, license plate lights as well. Really makes a big difference in usefulness as well as a way cleaner look.

I agree. I always do them in all my cars. I did the plate and trunk lights a while ago but just got around to the interior. Such a nice change. |

A bit better picture of the caps and lugs in daylight. Wheels are dusty though from driving today

That looks great. I was looking at some optional center caps for my Weds, because the ones that came with them bulge out about an inch and a half. Drives me nuts. I'd rather have something a little flat.
But I agree with you on the white lettering. Looks very clean. Do they have spoke decals for the 57DR? A white set would really complete the look, IMO. |

Funny you mentioned that. I've been trying to find a set of white gramlight stickers. They just have red and blue from what I can find. But you are right, white decals would look killer. I also want to get some gloss black/white lettering side badges as well. I think it'll tie in really well. Edit: Looks like they have a white/black decal that could look good Last edited by ScoobyFreak86; 01-22-2018 at 02:57 PM. |
