Default Open Track Day - July 27th - Grattan MI

Hey everyone.
Just wanted to let everyone know we have a bunch of spots available for an open trackday on thursday July 27th. There's probably only going to be 25 cars for the entire day, so track time is almost unlimited!

If you want to sign up, email [email protected], or check out http://www.3ballsracing.com for all the info and why there's so few cars! interesting story. Basically, Grattan double booked us for the Friday July 28th. We got bumped to the day before, and we've lost over 1/2 our participants due to the date change hapening this week... (yes we're also loosing our shirts on the event)

Cost only $135 for the entire day, and pizza lunch and pop is being provided.

We hope to get more entries. It's a screeming deal!

Thanks,
Daniele

Mapquest told me it is 212miles. So you could do it in 3hours without stoping.

We have a fair number of people that are coming from Chicago. A caravan could be arranged. If you've been to gingerman, it's 45min -1h past there.

let me know if you want to make the trip on the 27th. like I said, track time is going to rediculous because of the number of people. With this many people, we'll probably only run 3 groups, and if you have some experience, we'll let you jump in any group you want any time. It's going to be very laid back...

Will instructors be available? I've done some events at other tracks but it's always nice to have an experienced person along at a new track.

We have a few, but not many. You'd be able to get some ride and have one ride with you, but not the whole day.

What we are doing for the newcommers at Grattan because it's so technical is, in the morning we're doing 6-7 laps under yellow (touring laps) with everyone getting a chance to follow directly behind an instructor so you can get the line down before the speeds get turned up. At our last event everyone said this was a huge help.

Awsome!
Sorry about the website... we're working on fixing it.

To sign up, just email [email protected] and say you want to join in on the July 27th track day. If you want a quicker response, call Ken at 248-219-1615. As far as payment, since it's so late, you can either paypal $139.00 to [email protected], or bring your money to the track on thursday.

Leaving from I-94/US 23 area early Thursday plan on jettin' up 23 to 96....PM for cell phone number. Who wants to be lead dog? I'll be tail dog (or can lead as I know most of the po-po hideouts on I-96).

I dont know if they sponser any open track events like Waterford does or atleast they dont show any on there schedule. They usually just have SCCA events and Clubs that rent the track. Great Motorcycle track if your into that!

Hope everyone had a blast! I talked to Ken and he said everything went really well. I was really bumbed out that I couldn't go. I'm totally excited for the next one on Saturday September 30th.

As for as other open track days at grattan... There arn't many for cars. They only happen when a group like us (3ballsracing) decides to put one on for the public.

I'm going to keep my eye out for other events by some other group... I think someone at DCX puts them on aswell. But not always at Grattan

Well it was a long day. For some reason I can't get a good nights sleep before auto events. Was up at 2:30a again at 3:30a and watched the clock count-down to wake-up time at 4:15a. Hustled to finish getting things into the car to be on the road by 5:15a to meet up with SilOnt in Brighton. Had a good ride up, very little traffic.
Got to Grattan for my first visit there. What a beautiful track!
Got to hear some good instruction and track tips and then it was out onto the track for the parade lap. I was late and ended up chasing the pack so I never got a good look at the proper line.
SilOnt was kind enough to take me around for a ride during his group outing and showed me the braking and apex points. From that point on it got to be really good for me. Finally I get to see how the car runs, brakes, corners and accelerates without worrying about other things!!!!!! I got a grin that won't quit! Don't know how I'm gonna go to work next week after this one!
If you've ever wanted to run track days, this is the group to do it with, just a great group of people. Low key, a lot of encouragement and help when needed.

More than likely when registration opens for September 30, I'm gonna be there.
Ken and company....thanks for 1hellavagoodtime!

Thanks for the recap of your day. Sorry you didn't sleep, but it sounds like it was worth it.

I'm really glad everyone had a great time. This is exactly what we are trying to achieve with our track days. We're trying to put on casual events, were we can help people out as much as possible, and just has fun. Part of making everyone have fun has a lot to do with the people that come out. We've now got a nice core group of guys that can hopfully keep this going for a long time. I hope everyone comes back September 30th! I'll be there for that one... So hopefully I can meet everyone that I missed this week.

oh, We should have the website ready for Sept 30th sometime next week. I'll post a new thread when it's up.

Good show everyone. Despite the 30 minute downpour and the humidity, I too had a blast. Actually it was sorta funny watching all the big power RWD guys go home after the rain leaving the track our "econoboxes." In all, very thankful everyone had lots of fun and nobody got hurt. Highlight for me had to be riding shotgun with Paul in his Lotus 7. My whole body was sore for the rest of the day. Dang it, now I gotta get me a real race car.

On a different note, I want to let everyone know that we'll be having a dyno day in about a week or two at Payne Technologies. It's an event to kinda re-open the place. Tom Payne has sold the shop and the new owner Eric is starting it back up. He's been tunning production vehicles at cosworth for year's so he know's his stuff. I'll post the details when I have them.
