Why would you do that? It's not going to have any more interior space than your Impreza.

Well, ride height would make loading the baby easier, but other than that... very good question! If you want just a little more room, wait a couple months for the Forester.

^ nailed it!

Also she likes the hatch to be able to load the stroller and stuff in/out easier.

I need to read up on the new forester...will it have the 2.0 and cvt?

Look one thread up. The new Forester will have a 2.5 N/A with either 6MT or CVT and 2.0 turbo with CVT only.

I'd recommend Forester. The cargo area of an Impreza or XV Crosstrek is doable, but once you get a stroller and any other baby gear in there, it'll fill up quickly. Trips with stroller, playpen or portable crib, diaper bag, any baby gates you might take, etc., will leave little for luggage. Then there's baby furniture, playsets, etc.
Of course people do make smaller space work, but a larger space is simply easier. Just my 2 cents, but then again I have 3 kids, not 1, so even Forester was too small for me.

60-40 split folding seats in the XV. You can have baby in seat, and other seat folded down for more room (or as a changing station).

I picked mine up lastnight and so far I love it. Obviously it isn't a fast as my WRX was but it is still pretty peppy. I really think that the Crosstrek is what the Imp Sport always should have been.
I averaged 35.7MPG on my ride in to work this morning which is a mix of city but mostly highway with some stop and go traffic. My WRX would average 22.2. I'm realistic so I don't expect the MPGs to stay that high but would be happy averaging 28-29.

Have you actually installed a rear-facing car seat into your Impreza yet?

If you haven't, be sure to look into space saving models only. Most infant carriers are too big for a medium sized adult to sit in front of, so you'll need to either install a convertible seat (which means buckling/unbuckling kid in the car) or kiss the dashboard.

.. and remember that it's recommended that they stay rear-facing until they're 2 years old.

Do not quote the trip computer.. particularly during break-in. You can start quoting it once you've actually spent a few months comparing actual calculated mpg to the computer.

Welp, I'm >| |< close to picking one up.

Just comes down to a few numbers that need to be met. What I want for my car trade-in + just over invoice with incentives. The biggest issue right now is there are no Limited Desert Kahkis at all in New England. (Yeah, my wife said to get the leather seats, so no Premium).

Like I said, it's doable. Plenty of folks make it work.

I can tell you, my wife does not pack light when it comes to the kids.

I managed having a kid in an '02 WRX and now a Juke. Compared to those the XV is huge inside.

60/40 folding seats are a godsend.

If nothing else, leather seats are nice for when you have kids because it's SO much easier to clean up spills and such. I had sport cloth in my Forester that my niece and nephew would mess up (babies), so I opted for the Limited when I got the WRX. Subaru's leather is such to where you don't feel so bad when messes are made, which I prefer.

haha That too. Carried a dog in my WRX ONCE and had no problem wiping the seats, but 10 months later was still cleaning the hairs off the floor of the car.

Yup, I ordered my Khaki Limited with nav/moonroof about a week after the first ones showed up on the lots and heard from the salesman that it shipped out of Japan this week. Hopefully that means I get it by turkey day. He also told me they have two coming so maybe you should call them and ask...

I'd be buying from the dealer that's 2 blocks away and getting it transferred. I've bought my last few Subies there. But thanks. :-)

When I walked in the back when going for the test drive, the lead tech was like "how are you Mr KC? Haven't seen you in a bit. Getting a BRZ?"

Passed a Tangerine XV on the highway today and snapped a pic of this Ice Silver one last night at Costco:

I love the wheels and I love Ice Silver. It's bluish, which is very nice.

So I need some technical knowledge dropped on me from those in the know. I'm debating between a new Ford Explorer Sport and an Impreza XV Crosstrek (already ordered).

I realize the Ford is 2x the cost of the Impreza, don't get hung up on that aspect. I'm also fully aware of the significant power differences, seating for 7 vs. 5, etc. What I'm curious about is the following:

Can someone explain the difference in the AWD capabilities of each vehicle. I'm interested in the manual version of the crosstrek (50/50 split). I realize the Ford has a "terrain management" system, but I'm not familiar with it at all. Also, the Ford has about an inch less ground clearance, which probably isn't significant but worth noting. Would the crosstrek be better suited for dealing with snow? I like the power aspect of the Ford given the elevation I live at and our frequent trips up I-70 to the mountains (Denver, CO). However, greater power isn't necessary to stay rooted on the ground in icy conditions where low torque prevails. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Bought my XV one week ago. Love it! I traded my 2006 Baja for it. I bought a limited in dark gray. My mileage is meh but I have noticed the alignment is already off so back it goes on tuesday. 450 miles. This is Subaru #25 for me and my first daily driver automatic ever (I'm 37). have a pic!

Have you thought about the new '14 Forester that will be coming out in a few months (probably spring time). Or are you in a tight bind for a car now.

Between those two, I would always go with Subaru. I know Ford has gotten better over the years, but I still don't trust their quality. The Ford Explorer Sport gets what, 16/22 compared to the XV at 25/33? That is significant enough for me that I would have to take mpg's into account. What is more important for you, the larger interior volume vs. more powerful engine vs. fuel economy vs. long term dependability? That might help you answer your question. If you want fuel economy and long term dependability go with the Subaru.

The ford terrain management system only changes the amount of interference of the traction control software. The ford system is part time awd (90/10). That is not the best for bad weather. Also ask anyone and they will say to turn off traction control in deep snow or sand so the software means nothing.

In terms of AWD get the XV. The Sport is faster but you arent going for that it seems.

The manual Subarus use a viscous coupling center differential which uses metal plates surrounded by a fluid. When the car drives normal and the front and rear axles are similar in speed the plates spin at the same rate. Once you start to slip the difference in speeds between the axles changes the speed of the metal plates they are attached to and the shearing action and heat solidifies the fluid to force the axles to spin at the same rate. On top of that you have VDC which will use a computer to brake a slipping wheel, but this is similar to all brands.

I've had the manual system in three cars and have never been stuck. It is great.

The auto XV has a part time system but it is a little different and less reactive than other companies. Plus the symmetrical layout of the engine allows both front wheels to have an equal amount of weight pushing them down to gain traction.

I think some of the Subaru fanboys will get upset with get upset with calling the CVT AWD (Active AWD) part time. But hey, not my battle to fight.
