Post Christmas present

I hope that this is in the right catagory, but With Christmas coming up I had to buy someone who is really into cars a present. I don't know too much about cars so I decided to let that person pick out a bunch of car things that they wanted/needed and I would get it for them. Or they would have to get it as I would have no idea who to contact and all that kind of stuff. Not too much of a surprise as they have to do all of the leg work, but I am paying for it.
But my question is, Is this a good idea or should I have gone the traditional way and picked out some sweaters, accesories and things like that?
I hope that I did the right thing, but I can't help but feel as though it is not very Christmassy.

Great Idea! Another cool thing that I do with my parents sometimes (so this might not work for you) is split the cost of something really nice. I did this with computer stuff, which let me pick out what I wanted but couldn't afford. I think good quality tools are also a nice gift, and good investment. Some new ramps, a new pair of Mechanix Gloves, air tools or welding equipment can benefit the whole family when cars need "home servicing".

I definitely think the safety gloves or even race apparel like helmets have a Christmassy personal touch since you'd have to get your person's sizes.

Good luck on your gifts and Merry Christmas!

PS. Just thinking about what would make me feel warm and fuzzy.... If my girlfriend indulged me in some wild snow/mud driving or planed a rally trip weekend. I mean, it's great having someone bring me hot tea when i'm out wrenching on the car at night, but i think i'd like it even more if someone was there to share the fruits of my labor.

Best Regards,

Dan Jue

Kim, Alex is a lucky guy to have you thinking of him at this time of year, period. Doesn't matter what you get him, but it's true that car stuff makes a great present because it's frilly and expensive yet useful and appreciated. Something he would not buy for himself (or would he?) but would appreciate nonetheless.

So what did you get?

Next year PM a bunch of us and ask us what so-and-so wants!!!

LOL

Kim, you did the right thing! My wife did it to. She ordered the STi rear seat that would match the front seats in Alex's car. Plus some other cool (go fast) parts.

There is a time for clothes (when you are young and old) but in between is the time for cat stuff (toys )

I highly approve of the technique. It's always kinda nice to have something small under the tree to open on Christmas day (as a surprise), but I personally would rather have someone ask me about stuff like that. This is basically what my wife and I did. We told each other the major presents we wanted, but also set aside a few bucks to have something we didn't know we were getting. I think it'll work out great.

And Alex is a lucky SOB to be getting cool car stuff for Christmas...

Or you could do what I did, and just make up a whole list of stuff you want with full details on where your significant other can get it at.

There is a down side to that though – One of the vendors on the board just pm’ed me with a confirmation on an order my girlfriend placed. I can still act surprised though when I get that sweet heavy weight SWRT jacket.

Cool

if you are not 100000% sure that this gift will absolutely be perfect for someone...

it's not a bad idea to ask em what they want and try to get them something that will make 'em happy!!!

i hate returning gifts....
