Awesome install! Now, I just have to find some fog light installs for an 09 STI...japanparts doesn't have the assembly.

I've been working on putting a rear fog on my 09 hatch, but I REALLY want to use the OEM switch, so I've been waiting to install until I can get a clear picture of whether or not I can use it. I got my switch off of eBay, seller was from Latvia. My LHD lamp came from Israel. |

I have a friend who has set up the relays for me. Its a 3 way toggle switch, I can switch it from foglight powered (based off of the front fog lights being on), brake light activated (linked in with the 3rd brake light) or just off.
I learned from friends and their 2010 LGTS, don't mess with BIU... its too expensive to mess up. Yipee, I also got confirmation from Ralleysport that they have mailed it. |

My idea would be just to not include the BIU. I would just use the stalk switch to go to my own relay and wiring assembly which would join the rear segment that goes to the bulb. I haven't had time to pull everything apart since I don't have the stalk yet in order to see if there are pins populated on the car side. My guess is that there are no wires there.

That said, the switch may require a specific relay to mimic that function, as it cannot simply be set to "on". |

Thats the issue. The one you really need is the UK version. Its on the correct side from what I've read. Im just going to add a small swith under the left stalk for the fogs. Im going to tap into the front fog light wiring. |

Yeah, as I noted, I suspected that you could mimic the function with a relay of some sort. Glad to know it's easy.

It was just an option, your option might be the way you want to go... that doesn't mean that it is the best option for everyone. I have mine wired. |

My first preference is to use the factory switch and latching function. I've never built a latching relay, but I'm sure that I can handle it once I figure it out...or I can probably just purchase one.
My second option is an aftermarket switch. I'll still probably want it to latch though. |

Actually, I'm in a hatch too. I found the lamp for an LHD car by pure luck on eBay. I got the switch on eBay as well. It took some time and a lot of searching.

For reference.....
I ended up wiring a new circuit with a 30amp relay and a tiny rocker switch i mounted under the left hand stalk on the steering column. If or when I source a Euro stalk I will get a new lower plastic piece for the column and change out the stalk. Did anyone ever notice that the fuse panel diagram on the our cars shows "R. Brake/R. Fog" on the 20amp circuit? |

If I knew this would be so easy to do... it would've been done months ago. |
