Default 2015 Subaru WRX STI Reviewed

2015 Subaru WRX STI First Drive

Watch the full video! (Goes live at 10am EST Now!)

After reviewing the WRX earlier this year, we couldn't wait for the new STI to get a similar upgrade. Subaru did not disappoint. The new STI has all the benefits of the new WRX, but retains that trademark Subaru sound thanks to sticking to the old EJ257 (for better or worse). Could this be the best STI ever? See our first impressions in this video.

The new STI pricing starts at $34,495 (same as outgoing model) for the base model as seen in the video. A special Launch Edition is $37,395 (adds STI short-shift, World Rally Blue paint and gold wheels, limited to 1,000 units) and the Limited (leather, nav, etc.) runs $39,293.

Subaru is a very conservative company in terms of engineering. I'm guessing it's simply not ready yet.

Hopefully in two years or so it will be. I just don't see how they can sell it over the WRX due to the ancient power plant. It will be insteresting to see what a tune will do to the WRX motor.

Very nice review, I'm right in the middle between wrx / sti still. Can't wait to drive them both one will most likely be my next car.

I am also interested to see what a few bolt on mods and a tune will produce with that turbo FA motor

I like it and I like what they have done with it in terms of styling and it's suspension. There are more Subarus on the road each day. And like the rest of their line up, I think this car will be a great hit.

I like the 'base' wheels. Looks like they came off a zr1.

I like it. For some reason the seats stuck out to me. They look horrible.

Did Mitsubishi have a parts sale? These cars hoods look interchangeable.

You can really see just how big they made the wing this time around haha I'm actually liking the rear more than the front now whereas two months ago i liked the front better...I think white doesn't look as good as it used to with this new one....it hides the already not so appealing or as wide fenders. I"ll wait a couple years and see what happens (new motor). For new buyers, they will love this car

nice car overall, I agree that the seats look weird, not very subaru at all, hope they didn't pay recaro for those seats!

having the EJ isn't all bad, make drop in engine part readily accessible! but in a couple years I'm sure it will be fun to play with a FA25

Yes, but that car has had lots of issues to. I have seen several reviews of that car and it had issues with heat and tunes. I am sure they will work the kinks out but it would not be a reliable track car until they did.

The FA20 (or some variant thereof) is inevitable for the STI. Like the poster said above it is just not ready for primetime yet for the STI. I think it would definitely put me on the fence on buying one of these if I were in the market since I doubt they are more than a year or two away from updating the drivetrain.

Can't wait for some head-to-head WRX vs STI comparisons.
